BOSTON (AP) -- Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine has called out the Tampa Bay Rays' coaching staff a day after the teams were involved in a benches-clearing scrum. Valentine said the Rays' staff escalated the situation that arose in the ninth inning of Tampa Bay's 7-4 win on Friday night after Red Sox reliever Franklin Morales hit Luke Scott on the right leg. He called their actions as "unprofessional." Rays manager Joe Maddon said he had a lot of respect for Boston's players, but would not comment on Valentine's accusations. Benches cleared after Morales threw behind DH Luke Scott with the first pitch of an at-bat and hit him on a 3-1 pitch. Afterward, Maddon said of the Red Sox's actions: "That was ridiculous. It was absurd, idiotic."

Bobby Valentine Facing Tough Decisions When It Comes to Filling Out Red Sox Lineup Card (Video)

The Red Sox lineup has changed a lot this season, due in large part to the number of injuries the team has sustained. Bobby Valentine has needed to get creative at times, most recently when it comes to getting Adrian Gonzalez, Kevin Youkilis and Will Middlebrooks all into Boston's lineup. Much of the flexibility has been the result of guys willing to play a number of roles. Gonzalez...

“What a Dump!” Fenway Park Strikes Back

DATELINE: HUMOR! Bobby Valentine oversaw his team begin to brawl in the ninth inning after Luke Scott, sometime Fenway Park detractor, was hit by a pitch. Scott despises Fenway Park and gave an interview to that effect, which has ranked him at the top of the enemies list all season among the most arrogant of Boston Red Sox fans. At his postgame interview, Bobby Valentine insisted...

Adrian Gonzalez 'Not Happy' With Early Exit, But Bobby Valentine Defends Decision to Yank Him

BOSTON -- Adrian Gonzalez wasn't anticipating an early exit. After belting a single in the sixth inning of Saturday's 3-2 win, the Red Sox right fielder -- usually a first baseman -- was expecting to grab his glove and return to the field. Instead, he was pulled for pinch runner Che-Hsuan Lin. With the game deadlocked at zero, Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine didn't want...

Bobby Valentine Thinks Dustin Pedroia Could Miss Time, Mike Aviles Believes He'll Be in Lineup

BOSTON –– Dustin Pedroia dove down, snagged a grounder and fired a pinpoint throw to first base. It was a defensive masterpiece, one that retired Detroit's Danny Worth and ended the fifth inning. But it also resulted in an injury. Following the play in Monday's 7-4 victory, the Red Sox second baseman exited the game with a jammed right thumb. Pedroia was likely undergoing...

Bobby Valentine Has 'No Concerns' With Adrian Gonzalez Playing Right Field at Fenway Park(Video)

Adrian Gonzalez's recent experiment in the outfield has been a hot topic among baseball circles. The Gold Glove first baseman has put on quite the show in right field over the past few games, and he has looked like a natural out there. As the Red Sox return to Fenway Park, though, things could become a bit dicier in right field. The dimensions at Fenway add a more difficult element...

Bobby Valentine Makes Right, But Risky Call in Possibly Playing Adrian Gonzalez in Fenway's Tricky Outfield

Bobby Valentine Pushing Right Buttons, But Adrian Gonzalez in Right Field May Not Be Long-Term Fix (Video)

The Red Sox offense packs plenty of punch when Adrian Gonzalez, Will Middlebrooks and Kevin Youkilis are all in the lineup, but that requires some unconventional managing from Bobby Valentine. Gonzalez is a Gold Glove caliber first baseman who has little outfield experience, so the team obviously takes a hit defensively when he's put in right field like he has been recently....
