USA TODAY Sports To start off, Forbes ranks the Red Sox as the 3rd most valuable MLB franchises at $1.31 billion. That’s only behind the New York Yankees ($2.32 billion) and the Los Angeles Dodgers ($1.615 billion). Also, according to Forbes, the Red Sox had $336 million in revenue and an operating income of $23.9 million. Also, the Red Sox have an Opening Day starter, and his name is Jon Lester – announced by the Red Sox Official Twitter. Lester only allowed two earned runs in 20 innings pitched this spring, and also struck out 16 batters while only walking 4. That was not the only call made today. Ryan Lavarnway also got optioned to AAA, according to NESN. This move doesn’t come to a big surprise, considering Jarrod Saltalamacchia and David Ross were in his way to an Active roster spot. Lavarnway went 6-44 this spring, with a double, three walks, and seven strikeouts. The Red Sox released first baseman Lyle Overbay today. Overbay, 36, signed with Boston as a minor league free agent in January and was a non-roster invitee to Major League Spring Training.  In 19 games for the Red Sox this spring, he batted .220 with one double, two triples, and seven RBI.
