San Francisco took back the lead with a five-run fifth in which they sent ten men to the plate.
The first run of the frame was not without controversy.
Andres Torres led off with a single, stole second and advanced to third on an Emmanuel Burriss groundout.
Pablo Sandoval came up next and lined out to center. Reed Johnson threw the ball in to home plate. At first, home plate umpire Tim McClelland called Torres out, but he changed the call after seeing catcher Geovany Soto had dropped the ball.
Cubs manager Mike Quade came out to argue but to no avail. Actually, replays showed Torres should have been called safe even before Soto lost the ball.
