After months of miserable seasons, the sun is finally coming out on Seattle sports. Both the Sounders and the Mariners have started well, inspiring hope for Seattle sports fans.
The Sounders, as the new team in town have brought great excitement and energy to Seattle. It seems like everyone is talking about them. This team excited existing soccer fans and brought more fans to the game of soccer itself. I, personally, had never liked watching soccer before the Sounders came to town, but after watching a couple of games I am all in. Fans attending the games have shown their enthusiasm with the new Sounders scarves and the by standing and cheering the entire game.
A main reason for this excitement is that this team is good. This is an unusually talented team especially for an expansion team, and the Sounders scored a fantastic coach in Sigi Schmid. They have a mix of veteran leadership, including Freddie Ljunberg and Kasey Keller, and young energy in Steve Zakuani and Freddy Montero. So far this team has been playing like someone just called them irrelevant. They have started 4-1 and have showed no signs of slowing up.

Aside from this new team, Seattle’s longtime franchise, the Seattle Mariners, have also jumpstarted Seattle’s sports scene. New management in Jack Zduriencik and Don Wakamatsu have made great choices in assembling this new team. Bringing back Griffey has been one of the best stories in Seattle.
Outstanding pitching and defense has propelled this team to a 7-2 start. New players have stepped up, old players improved, team chemistry is turned around, and as a result, the Mariners are winning. A 5-2 road trip combined with the return of Griffey and an overtime win contributed to one of the most exciting opening days at Safeco. It is a great new day for Seattle sports.
