On Monday, the Miami Marlins wrapped up their Spring Training schedule with a 5-2 loss to the New York Yankees.   It was the Marlins’ second loss in a row to the Bronx Bombers at Marlins Park.    The Yankees put a little dent in the soft openings of the park with the pair of wins but the real opening will come on Wednesday night against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Carlos Zambrano started the game and took the loss to fall to 0-3 for the Spring.   The veteran struggled mightily with his control walking seven Yankees’ batters in only four innings on the mound.    In all, New York plated five runs against Big Z and collected four hits.   With Zambrano struggling and his pitch count rising quickly, Ozzie Guillen removed him from the game in the top of the fifth inning.    The bullpen fared much better combining for five shutout innings including Heath Bell in the ninth who struck out the side.

Hanley Ramirez was credited with the only run batted in for Miami as the other run scored via error.    The Marlins’ third baseman wrapped up the Spring with seven runs batted in and an impressive .370 batting average.   Emilio Bonifacio had two hits in the game and also stole his fifth base of the Spring.   Jose Reyes and Logan Morrison both doubled in the Spring finale.

On Wednesday the Marlins finally get their much anticipated regular season underway.  The game will be highlighted on national TV by ESPN with Josh Johnson scheduled to start for Miami.   On the mound for the World Series Champion St. Louis Cardinals will be Kyle Lohse.
