For the second time in the last four days, St. Louis Cardinals' pitcher Chris Carpenter throws to hitters.  He is attempting to come back from a nerve issue which caused numbness in his throwing shoulder in spring training. As reported by the Associated Press, "The St. Louis right-hander threw about 25 pitches to teammates Shane Robinson and Tony Cruz on Thursday. It was Carpenter's fourth outing in a possible comeback." Manager Mike Matheny indicated that will probably throw to live batters in the next few days, if he feels well. Carpenter missed most of last season due to injury and has a career record of 144-94, with an earned run average of 3.76 and 1,697 strikeouts in 2,219 1/3 innings.
