It appears likely that the St. Louis Cardinals are about to sign free agent pitcher Roy Oswalt “soon,” according to sources. Oswalt reportedly turned down offers from at least two other MLB teams, including the Boston Red Sox and Texas Rangers, to remain in the National League, where he has spent his entire 10 year career. The deal is not complete as of yet, although it appears the only thing that could prevent Oswalt signing with the defending World Series champions would be a physical, which, with his recent back problems, could be an issue. Many teams were reportedly after the 34-year-old pitcher, although back issues have limited him to just 23 starts last season with the Philadelphia Phillies. Still, he managed to put up solid numbers, and he could put up even better statistics in the National League Central, which does not have the same overall offensive firepower that he faced in the National League East. After all, Oswalt is quite familiar with the Central, consi...

Roy Oswalt Wants to Pitch for Texas Rangers

The Texas Rangers recently acquired Japanese pitching sensation Yu Darvish, but he’s never pitched in America. A three-time All-Star who has pitched in the big leagues for a decade is interested in joining the Rangers and Texas would be crazy not to take advantage of it. Philadelphia Phillies right-hander Roy Oswalt is a free agent and a source close to the Phillies said he wants...

Does Roy Oswalt Make Sense For The Cardinals?

Rumors are flying around that free agent starting pitcher Roy Oswalt is close to choosing his 2012 team, and that the top suitor right now is the reigning World Champion St Louis Cardinals, who are ahead of the Tigers, Red Sox, and Astros in the race for Oswalt. But does the starter make sense for St Louis? Honestly, it seems like Oswalt would be a better match for the Red Sox,...

Plan 9 from Kenmore Square

According to the latest rumors, Roy Oswalt is likely to end up in St. Louis. Edwin Jackson has "multiple" three-year offers, but may accept a one-year deal to see what his market is for next year. (Which puzzles me a bit, actually. Why not the bird in the hand?) The Sox are still mentioned as a possible one-year destination for Jackson. We're past plan B, and probably...

Oswalt is going to St. Louis, or is he?

There have been reports that Cardinals were favored by Roy Oswalt and they are the front-runners in the race. The Cardinals were also reported to have made an identical $5 million offer to Oswalt as the Red Sox did earlier in the week. WEEI: According to Jim Duquette of MLB Network Radio, the Cardinals appear to have the inside edge on signing free agent pitcher Roy...

Tigers ‘Heavyweight’ Deal May Benefit Royals

I received several texts, emails and phone calls in the days following the Tigers’ signing of Prince Fielder. The messages varied, but the tone was always the same: “Now we have to go sign Roy Oswalt, there’s no way we can compete without him.” “Now we have no reason to sign Oswalt, we can’t compete this year, period.” “Prince Fielder and Miguel Cabrera in the same...
