The St. Louis Cardinals and the Cincinnati Reds have become some of baseball’s most bitter rivals. Being two of the best teams in the National League seems to enhance the competitiveness felt between them and there is a fierce ongoing battle between the Reds and Cardinals fans and players. The St Louis Cardinals are one of the oldest franchises in Major League Baseball and have won 11 World Series titles; whereas the Reds have only five World Series wins to their name. This is a major sore point for the Reds as they have been around longer and feel they deserve the top spot for their contribution to the sport and have been knocked out unfairly in the past. Fans from both sides have also wholeheartedly expressed their dislike of the other team and there is no doubt as to their feelings as they regularly boo the opposing players each time the Cardinals and Reds meet. Sports betting results often show this rivalry and when there’s a Reds versus Cardinals game the picks are pretty in...

In brief: Votto’s socks, Latos’ April, and Hal McCoy’s car

Those socks equal wins for the last two days. (Photo by Dilip Vishwanat/Getty Images)Last game For the second day in a row, Joey Votto wore his socks high, and for the second day in a row, the Reds won. It’s officially their longest road streak of the season. Is showing off his socks what Votto is paid to do? When it equals wins, I think you could argue that it is. Mat Latos was...

Bad body language has no place in baseball

The way Tom Hallion describes it, David Price swore at him with his body language in yesterday's game and he responded, verbally. This makes total sense to me.  Lord knows I've seen plenty of bad body language.  Having 3 small kids, it is a daily occurrence.  So, from now on, you know what I'm going to do?  Anytime I catch my kids using bad body language, I'...

St. Louis Cardinals Purchase Contract Of Seth Maness

The St. Louis Cardinals have purchased the contract of right handed pitcher Seth Maness. Blessed with exquisite control, and a solid arm, he should provide the Cardinals with a decent arm in the bullpen. He was pitching for Triple-A Memphis. Cardinals' Jason Motte 'felt good' after throwing

The St. Louis Cardinals' bullpen is in sorry shape, and the team is hoping to get closer Jason Motte back at some point this year. The right-hander offered good news yesterday, as he told Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com that he "felt good" after playing catch for the second consecutive day. Motte -- who was diagnosed with a ligament tear in his right elbow earlier this...

St. Louis Cardinals need more Joe Kelly, less Mitchell Boggs

The St. Louis Cardinals beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 9-1 Friday, but they had to survive another bad performance from reliever Mitchell Boggs while Joe Kelly once again proved he should be used more often. Cardinals manager Mike Matheny didn’t give Boggs a chance to completely blow the 5-1 lead he had when he entered the game to start the eighth inning, but he did load the bases...

Wainwright, Cards welcome Reds back to Busch

(AP) -- The Cincinnati Reds didn't face Adam Wainwright in their visit to Busch Stadium earlier this month. They won't be so fortunate this time around. Wainwright will try to help the St. Louis Cardinals avoid a season-high third consecutive loss on Monday night when these NL Central foes renew their rivalry. Trying to build off a season-opening 4-2 homestand, the Reds...

Latos outduels Wainwright as Red top Cardinals 2-1

LOUIS (AP) -- Mat Latos outpitched Adam Wainwright, extending his scoreless innings streak to 17, and the Cincinnati Reds got an RBI apiece from Joey Votto and Xavier Paul in a 2-1 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday night. Pitcher nearly hit by ball ricocheting off backstop

A frustrating 5-2 loss for the Nats on Sunday against the Reds, and Adam LaRoche continues to simply not hit. But Henry Rodriguez was like a little ray of comedic sunshine on an otherwise gray and gloomy day in Washington when he nearly hit Corky Miller with a pitch in the 8th, then followed that up with a pitch that ricocheted off the backstop and nearly hit him in the head. Enjoy...

Cardinals rumors: St. Louis not shopping for relievers

Earlier this week, it appeared that the St. Louis Cardinals could enter the trade market early in order to upgrade their bullpen. However, Cardinals’ relievers have improved over the past week, and general manager John Mozeliak told reporters – including John Paul Morosi of FOX Sports – that the team isn’t going to look into acquiring bullpen help from outside the organization...

Heisey leaves game with hamstring injury

Washington (AP) -- Cincinnati left fielder Chris Heisey left the Reds' game against the Washington Nationals Saturday in the third inning with a strained right hamstring. Reds manager Dusty Baker and trainer Paul Lessard came out to check on Heisey, who remained in the...

Nationals P Henry Rodriguez nearly nails himself with a wild pitch (Video)

Your browser does not support iframes. Washington Nationals pitcher Henry Rodriguez came dangerously close to having to charge the mound on himself on Sunday during a game against the Cincinnati Reds. In the top of the 8th inning, the right-hander threw a wild pitch. Oftentimes wild pitches lead to bench-clearing brawls. If Rodriguez’s wild pitch came any closer to his own head...

One more in St. Louis

After yesterday's late comeback victory, the Pirates find themselves in the same place that they were in when this series started on Friday -- a half-game behind the Cardinals. If the Pirates win today, they'll move into first place in the division and they'll ensure themselves at least five wins on this 10-game road trip no matter what happens in Milwaukee next week...

Pirates-Cardinals Preview

(AP) -- Shelby Miller is a big reason why St. Louis Cardinals starters own the best ERA in baseball. The rookie will look to gain a measure of revenge against the only team to ever beat him Sunday when the Cardinals and visiting Pittsburgh Pirates complete this three-game set. St. Louis starters have a 2.06 ERA, with the entire rotation allowing two earned runs over 33 2-3 innings...
