For the fourth straight day, the Marlins picked up a victory as they beat the Mets 4-2 in a rain-shortened game.   After enduring a long rain delay on Saturday, the Marlins played through several downpours before the umpires halted the game in the top of the sixth.   The game would not resume after that point which moved the Marlins’ record to 5-2 in the Grapefruit League.    During the third inning, Giancarlo Stanton was hit in the left wrist with a pitch which forced his exit from the contest.

The Marlins’ announced Stanton has a left wrist contusion and would have x-rays done to determine if he had broken the wrist.    If it remains a contusion, Stanton would be day-to-day and should only a miss a few days of action.   The bases were loaded when Stanton was hit which plated the first of the Marlins’ four runs on the day.   The offense mounted a comeback after the team fell behind 2-0 early on.   Bryan Petersen who is competing for a reserve outfield spot went 2-3 with a run scored.   He is one of the players who should see some extra playing time in Stanton’s absence.    Hanley Ramirez continued to swing a hot bat going 2-2 with a double off Mets’ starter Johan Santana.     Chris Coghlan returned to action after missing a few games and picked up a pinch hit RBI single.

Mark Buehrle made his first official start of the Spring and went four innings in which he allowed two runs on five hits while striking out one and walking one.   The veteran was credited with the win while Alex Sanabia earned the save for pitching the fifth inning.   Things didn’t go smoothly for Sanabia but escaped a jam to preserve the Marlins’ two run lead.

The Marlins will hope to avoid a third straight day of rain when they travel to Fort Myers to take on the Boston Red Sox on Monday.   Scheduled to start for Miami is Ricky Nolasco while the Red Sox will counter with Josh Beckett.
