Miami Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton will begin a rehabilitation assignment Wednesday with Class A Jupiter following right knee surgery earlier this month. Stanton hopes to return to the big league club on Aug. 10 to face the Los Angeles Dodgers during the Marlins' next homestand. ''It's not fun to just sit there helpless,'' Stanton said. ''You still pick up some things, learn from the down times we are going through, that's all you can do. I'm eager to get back, I'll be ready.'' Stanton, a 22-year old right fielder selected this year for his first All-Star team, is hitting .284 with 19 homers and 50 RBIs in 80 games. He has not played since July 7. Marlins left fielder Logan Morrison was placed on the 15-day disabled list before Sunday's game against San Diego because of right knee inflammation. ''I've battled it the whole year, grinding it out, and obviously I wasn't doing anything to help the team win so I had to make a decision,'' Morrison said. ''I'll try to rest it and not do (surgery). If that doesn't work out, obviously surgery is the next step.'' Morrison is hitless in his last 16 at-bats and is batting .230 with 11 homers and 36 RBIs.

Eovaldi gets first start for Marlins Saturday

Having already moved a couple of important pieces earlier this week, the Miami Marlins continued their rebuilding process by trading away what at one point was the face of the franchise. They're surely hoping Nathan Eovaldi, the main player acquired in the Hanley Ramirez deal, can become a reliable mainstay in their starting rotation for years to come. Eovaldi takes the mound...

Marlins move Zambrano into bullpen

The Miami Marlins moved Carlos Zambrano to the bullpen on Monday. Marlins manager Ozzie Guillen said left-hander Wade LeBlanc, who has worked only in relief this season, will take Zambrano's spot in the rotation on Wednesday night against the Atlanta Braves. LeBlanc is 1-1 with a 1.15 ERA. He was 17-21 with a 4.47 ERA in 52 career starts the past four years with San Diego....

Yet another Miami Marlins fire sale

Jeff Loria is not the most popular MLB owner. In fact he may be among the most hated. He is the guy that dismantled the Montreal Expos, used questionable practices to get his new stadium built in Miami, takes MLBrevenue sharing money, and was once threatened by the MLBPA for not spending enough money on his payroll. He has been labeled a cheap skate, and worse. He has used up all...

Johnson scheduled to start against Padres

While three of his teammates were shipped to contenders earlier in the week, Josh Johnson is still in Miami - at least for the time being. Johnson takes the hill in what could be his final start in a Marlins uniform Sunday afternoon when Miami concludes a three-game set against the San Diego Padres. After moving Omar Infante and Anibal Sanchez to Detroit and Hanley Ramirez to the...

Report: Carlos Zambrano Demoted

According to a report from Aaron Gleeman of NBC Sports, the Miami Marlins have demoted Carlos Zambrano to the bullpen.  The decision to move Zambrano comes after Zambrano’s disappointing performance against the San Diego Padres last Friday; where he clearly had little control over his pitches in the 7-2 loss. It’s safe to say that the former Chicago Cub is struggling in a Marlin...
