The Washington Nationals have activated right-hander Stephen Strasburg from the 15-day disabled list to start Sunday's game against the Cleveland Indians. Strasburg has been out with a strained back muscle and will pitch for the first time since May 31 against Atlanta. He left that game after two innings. Strasburg is 3-5 with a 2.54 ERA in 12 starts. The Nationals shut down the 24-year-old ace last September, a year after he had Tommy John surgery. Strasburg pitched 159 1-3 innings and didn't appear in the postseason. Left-hander Xavier Cedeno, who had no record and a 9.39 ERA in seven relief appearances, has been optioned to Triple-A Syracuse.

Yesterday, the foot suffered its third injury of the year, as Span fouled a pitch off of it in the sixth inning. Welcome back, Stras...

"It was good to be out there, number one. It’s kinda been two weeks so I just wanted to go out there and pound the strike zone as much as I could. A little hit and miss, kinda to be expected. Can’t really worry about it too much. I think I threw a lot of good pitches in there and kept the team in the ballgame." (Stephen Strasburg, via Washington Post, 6...

Though he may not attract as much attention as some of the game's other top pitchers, Jordan Zimmermann has been as consistent as they come. Zimmermann tries to build on another stellar outing Saturday night as the visiting Washington Nationals face the Cleveland Indians, who appear to be back on track. Nats Can’t Complete Comeback In Phillies Walk-Off Win

A home run in the top of the ninth inning kept the Washington Nationals’ (34-35) hopes of staying above .500 alive, but a walk-off single by the Philadelphia Phillies (34-37) in the bottom half thwarted Washington’s plans for victory in their 5-4 loss. The Nationals were down, 3-4, going into the ninth inning, and their chances of winning looked slim against Philadelphia’s...
