IT IS HIGH, IT IS FAR, IT IS caught:
Look, I liked last night's performance of "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Ichiro" as much as anyone, but Ich's best ninja impression had everyone so giddy that no one asked the obvious question: Why the hell was he sent?I understand being aggressive, and I understand there were two outs, but the ball beat him by 20 feet easy. It wasn't even close. There's a line where aggression becomes stupidity. This crossed it.Of course, we all know why Rob Thompson sent him. Because he knew what we all learned while watching the Yankees this season. A Yankee standing on second or third base might as well just jog back to the dugout. Those bases are where Yankee runners go to die. We can't drive them in.But wait, we had our No. 5 hitter coming up! Yeah, Swish was on deck, and how much has he come through with big hits in the postseason? (I love Swish, and I'm rooting for him, more than any other player, to be our post-season hero this year. He'd be 2012's versi...
BEST OF MAXIM
Yankees star Derek Jeter left Game 3 of the American League Division Series on Wednesday night with a leg injury.
Jeter apparently fouled a pitch off his left ankle in the third inning. He went on to triple in the at-bat but was in obvious pain as the game went on. He exited after striking out in the eighth inning and was replaced by Jayson Nix at shortstop.
Jeter, with a .462...
A 2:26 rain delay and a close game that was in the hands of a great Orioles bullpen didn't leave me much to be optimistic about last night. Couple all of that with the fact that my eyelids were heavy, and you get this blogger going to sleep in the 7th inning. When I woke up this morning I saw that everything that had to happen for the Yankees to win last night happened:* CC Sabathia...
TIME AND A PLACE?
Two Maryland state troopers reportedly asked Yankees stars Derek Jeter and Nick Swisher for their autographs during Sunday's playoff game in Baltimore.
In 2001, the Yankees accomplished the impossible. On successive nights, Tino Martinez and Scott Brosius belted two-out, bottom-of-the-ninth home runs off an unstoppable Arizona closer to stave off Word Series elimination. After the second night, which Joe Torre described as "Groundhog Day," everybody in the free world - everybody who had ever watched a Doris Day movie or...
The Yankees and the ALDS have an eerie relationship. It serves as either a small stepping-stone towards alarger pedestal or a heartbreaking roadblock of a larger goal. The Yankees aren’t like your favorite baseball team. The Baltimore Orioles have already had a successful season, anything in addition to making the ALDS is icing on a historic cake. They are playing with house money...
During last night's Baltimore Orioles-New York Yankees ALDS game, two Maryland State Troopers assigned to the Yankees dugout asked players for autographs.
The troopers entered the Yankee dugout in the ninth inning of the Yankees win and asked Nick Swisher and Derek Jeter for autographs.
A witness to the event said, "Swish was livid", referring to Nick Swisher. Derek...
New York Yankees left-hander Andy Pettitte hinted that he’ll
be returning for the 2013 season, reports Mark Hale of The New York Post:
“I know one thing: I know the
competition and the desire to compete is still there, and I don’t feel like I
kind of got that itch out from the 70 innings or so that I threw this year,”
Pettitte continued that he was...
Alex Rodriguez carried the New York Yankees to the 2009 World Series title with an amazing power display. His more recent postseason memories all too often involve ending with a swing and a miss.
A-Rod struck out to end the Yankees' 3-2 loss to the Baltimore Orioles in Game 2 of their division series Monday night, and calls to drop him from the No. 3 spot in the lineup and give...
Your browser does not support iframes. At age 38, New York Yankees outfielder Ichiro Suzuki doesn't have quite the speed he used to. But with that said, he showed off plenty of elusiveness Monday night when he tiptoed around home plate to score a run in Game Two of the ALDS against Baltimore. The sweet footwork by the Japanese native helped give the Pinstripes an early 1-0 lead.

All-time hits leader Pete Rose thinks his record is safe from Derek Jeter. Rose told the website "Sports on Earth" that time and the team's lack of positional flexibility will conspire to keep Jeter from collecting the 953 hits it will take to pass Rose. "I don't think he'll break the record," Rose said. "First of all, I don't think he...
Derek Jeter hit an RBI triple just past bubble-blowing center fielder Adam Jones, moving the New York Yankees into a 1-all tie with the Baltimore Orioles after three innings Wednesday night in Game 3 of their AL division series.
The best-of-five series was tied at 1 game apiece, with all remaining games in the Bronx.
With Russell Martin on third following a one-out double off Miguel...
The Orioles head to New York to play game 3 from the American League Division Series (ALDS) after bouncing back to take game 2 and even then series at 1-1. In the first two games of the series it has pretty much been neck and neck minus one inning. To me it’s only fitting that for the Orioles magical season to keep going they have to win 2 of the next 3 in New York which is pretty...
It was a hard-fought battle for eight innings...until Jim Johnson opened the floodgates in the ninth, leading to a 7-2 win for the Yankees over the Orioles in game one of their ALDS, giving the Yankees a 1-0 series lead.
CC Sabathia started for the Yankees, and quite frankly, he was awesome. Sabathia threw 120 pitches for the Yankees, with 80 strikes in those 120, completing 8...
With the temperature dropping below fiftty degrees at Oriole Park the Baltimore Orioles defeated the New York Yankees to even the American League Divisional Series.Rookie left-hander Wei-Yin Chen started for the Orioles. Chen who had spent four seasons pitching in Japan was making the biggest start of his career. Chen would pitch into the seventh.Jim Johnson would come into the...
