Tonight kicks off my least favorite time of year, The Subway Series. As I have lamented before, I don't care for inter-league play nor the subway series. It is a profitable series for baseball, but there is no real rivalry between the Mets and the Yankees. It has been reported that Omar Quintanilla has a small fracture in his left index finger, but plans on playing through it. Jason Bay

Quintanilla Quagmire: Another Mets SS Is Injured - Mets Might Have To Dig Down To Minors For Relief

It is being reported today all across Twitter that current Mets SS Omar Quintanilla will most likely miss tonight's game, and maybe more due to an injured index finger. The injury incurred when the slick Mets SS made a diving play. Quintanilla will not play tonight, but it is unknown as of yet if he will need to be disabled. In his stead, it is being reported that the Mets might promote a SS

Recent offensive woes highlight the need to upgrade from Jason Bay

Since moving into a tie for first place on June 3rd, the Mets have dropped five of their last six games. Before you start thinking it is a “June Swoon” recall that they have played the Cardinals, Nationals and Yankees in this stretch, three teams with a combined 98-77 (.560) record. It is disappointing, but not overly surprising, that the Mets have struggled during this stretch...

Mets nearly lose another shortstop, but Quintanilla plays

In the midst of one of their most difficult stretches of schedule this season, the New York Mets are perilously thin at shortstop. For a while Thursday morning, it appeared as if fourth-string shortstop Omar Quintanilla would be unable to play that afternoon against the Washington Nationals, a game the Mets won 3-1. Suffering from a contusion in his left index finger, Quintanilla...

What if John Sterling called Mets’ games?

Dahhhhh Yankees win! Ugh, unfortunately the Yankees did win last night . If you’re familiar with the grandiose stylings of Yankees’ radio play-by-play man John Sterling, you know how much he has a flair for the dramatic. While the Mets certainly don’t have the history or the cache of the Yankees’ franchise, we should take some comfort about the wit and wisdom we get from...

Bay Back In Lineup, Johan Ready For His Encore, Mets vs Yankees Baby!

Injuries to Shortstops Are Nothing New To Mets Fans

This is nothing new. The injury carousel that is the New York Mets shortstop position has been an issue for the past few seasons now, and probably the last decade when you really look at it. Aside from the 4-year span from 2005-2008 where Reyes played everyday, injuries have plagued whoever has manned this position. While Reyes was our starting shortstop since 2003, he was hardly...

Sunday Brunch: Is Today’s Lineup Subway Serious? Pinch Hitting For Hairston?

It’s time for a few quick rants. After all, what would you expect after seeing Andres Torres and Jason Bay featured prominently at the top of the order today as we look to avoid the sweep. Is Collins kidding me with this lineup or what? At least it’s great to see the red-hot Scott Hairston batting cleanup today… He of course is batting .417 (10-24) with five home runs, 10 RBI...

Subway Series Take II: Mets Seek To Even Score V. Yanks: Mets Lineup Vs. Yankees - June 9, 2012

The Mets were taken down a peg last night by the Yankees in an embarrassing performance by Johan Santana and his mates. Tonight the Mets look for revenge as Dillion Gee opposes Phil Hughes. Once again Lucas Duda will DH and Captain Kirk will patrol RF, as the injured Omar Quintanilla will start at SS. Last night's game isn't as cataclysmic as the sports papers and...

Subway Series Game 1: Forgettable night for Mets

There was only one positive thing about attending another Met game with Squawker Lisa that ended in a shambles for my team. Lisa spent two innings on a long, slow-moving drink line because she wanted to check out the Malibu party deck and got back to our seats in the top of the sixth. She looked at the scoreboard and said, "Holy bleep, it's still a no-hitter!" On the...

Post Game: Nationals 5 – Mets 3

After an excellent start to the month of June, the Mets dropped their 3rd straight game, 2nd straight to the Nationals in Washington.  With the tight NL East, the Mets fell to 4th with a win by the Braves over the Marlins. Jeremy Hefner made his 3rd start of the season, allowing 4 runs (3 earned) in 6 innings on 7 hits.  3 of the runs came in the 1st inning on a home run by Adam...
