Adam Rubin reports that the Mets attempted to re-sign Cory Sullivan when Carlos Beltran went down. Apparently Sully wanted the team to guarantee that they wouldn't sign another outfielder which they wouldn't do, so he signed with the Astros where he'll more then likely be on the opening day roster. Rubin goes on to report that had the Mets re-signed Sully they wouldn't have made the trade for Matthews, in all; while the Matthews trade wasn't popular I do believe Stokes is replaceable and Matthews is a much more polished player then Sully...Interesting revelation: A team official said the Mets would not have done the Brian Stokes-for-Matthews trade if Cory Sullivan had re-signed with the organization.
