The Phillies beat the Mets on Wednesday night by a score of 10-6. And while the offense finally produced some big runs, the hit parade did not actually arrive until after pitcher Cliff Lee exited the game. You know what that means…still no wins for Cliff Lee. It has been 8 starts and 2 months and poor Lee has been shut-out of the win column. Carlos Ruiz tried to bust him out of winless jail by smacking a pinch hit 2-run homer in the 7th, but that merely tied the game. The lead finally arrived in the 8th when Shane Victorino hit a sac fly to score Juan Pierre. Sadly though, Lee was no longer the pitcher of record at that point. And all those runs they pounded out in the 9th inning, including a Jimmy Rollins homer, also did Lee little good. We can all agree…wins are good! But how about sharing the cookies with a starving man? Geez. With that in mind, I have decided to start a support group for Cliff Lee. As you can see, his teammates appear to be on board: So let’s get to it, Phillie...

Phillies show signs of resurgence

One of baseball's oldest axioms reminds us that small sample sizes are the ultimate illusion -- think twice about what you're looking at. That logic aside, it's tempting to say the Phillies delivered a message while taking 2-of-3 from the Mets this week, despite devastating news about Roy Halladay. Can the Phillies win without their ace? Most everyone says no, but here...

Oh Em Gee: Cliff Lee, Dillon Gee Pitch in Mets-Phillies Rubber Match at Citi Field

Photo from ChadMoriyama.com - there are two more angles so check it out. Lee vs. Gee: one of the best matchups we get now and then, and not just namewise.  The two have matched up before and provided some six-letter pitching matchup excitement. Dillon Gee is 4-3 with a 4.92 ERA.  He can be stellar and he can be mediocre.  Cliff Lee is winless, but had been stellar most of the...

Carlos Ruiz Returns from the Dead to Homer for Phillies, Take Down Mets

The Phillies had one more game in Flushing (like "flushing a toilet"), New York at Citi Field and the series was at stake.  Dillon Gee went up against Cliff Lee who can't buy a win for the Phillies. Well, Cliff Lee did not win again.  The 1st inning was a little rocky for Lee, giving up a run to the Mets, but former Met Ty Wigginton answered with a home run in...

Mets Bullpen Finds a Bed, Then Craps It

There’s no two ways about it, tonight’s loss falls on the shoulders of the bullpen.  Dillon Gee pitched well enough to win tonight, and the Mets offense did enough against Cliff Lee to take home a victory tonight, but that’s not the way the story would end for the Mets. Every single reliever the Mets used out of the ‘pen tonight gave up a run, and that was a recipe for...

Pre-game: Philadelphia Phillies (26-25) at Mets (28-22)

Good afternoon Mets fans and welcome to another stupendous day of baseball! Tonight the Mets take on the Phillies in the rubber game of their three game series. For the second time this season, Dillon Gee will take on Cliff Lee in a battle of men with short last names that also happen to rhyme. In the last Gee vs. Lee game, the Phillies lefty was the better starter, but the Mets...

A Load of Bull…Pen. Post-Game: Phillies 10, Mets 6

What started out as a great pitchers duel between Dillon Gee and Cliff Lee quickly escalated into a downright mess. In what was shaping up to be another series win for the Mets against the Phillies was ACOSTA’D by the bullpen, as 5 pitchers gave up a combined 7 runs.  Jon Rauch would give up the game winner in the 8th, when after giving up 2 consecutive singles, striking out...
