NEW YORK -- Ichiro Suzuki always goes up to the plate believing he is going to get a hit. It does not always translate, but during a brilliant doubleheader performance Wednesday, the New York Yankees outfielder seemed to be able to get hits on demand. Ichiro capped a four-hit night with a tiebreaking single with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning, and the Yankees completed a day-night doubleheader sweep of the Toronto Blue Jays with a 2-1 victory. "The results were different today, and I'm not quite sure what the difference was, but I did go up there with the mindset that I was going to get a hit," Ichiro said through an interpreter. Ichiro went 7-for-8 in the doubleheader and became the first Yankee to have four hits and four stolen bases in the same game since Rickey Henderson in 1988 at Toronto's Exhibition Stadium. He also made a key defensive play in the eighth inning of the first game. The seven hits raised Ichiro's batting average with the...

Ichiro Suzuki Collects Infield Single After Hitting Ball Inside Jarrod Parker's Shirt (Video)

Sometimes, it's better to be lucky than good. Ichiro Suzuki has been a little bit of both lately, but it's hard to argue he was being "good" when he lightly tapped a grounder back to the mound off A's starter Jarrod Parker on Friday. Then, the "lucky" took over. The ball somehow found its way into Parker's jersey, and the right-hander was unable...

Ichiro gets a hit when ball goes down pitcher's shirt

Ichiro Suzuki has been on a tear lately but even the streaking Yankees outfielder couldn't foresee himself getting a hit this way —  a routine come-backer to the mound going down the opposing  pitcher's shirt. Oakland A's righthander Jarrod Parker was the unlucky recipient of Ichiro's third-inning grounder and, when he couldn't get the ball out of his shirt...

Vintage Ichiro

Many viewed the trade of outfielder Ichiro Suzuki to the Yankees as a low risk, high reward move. The perennial all-star and gold glove winner had exhausted his stay on a bad Seattle team, the oldest player on a club that’s laden with young, undeveloped talent. It was time for a change of scenery, and a move to a first place team, the Yankees thought, would revive the talents...

When Girardi Finally Sits Andruw, Ichiro Puts On A Show

The story after the first game of yesterday's doubleheader was the return of Andy Pettitte. The story at the end of the second game was, of course, Ichiro Suzuki. His 7 hits and 4 steals went a long way in securing the Yankees sweep of the Toronto Blue Jays yesterday.Ichirio's 7 hits on the day might only have been 3, had Joe Girardi continued to be stubborn. With lefty Ricky...

Yanks outslug Jays, open 1-game lead

Streaking Ichiro Suzuki hit a go-ahead, two-run double in a seven-run fourth inning capped by Nick Swisher's grand slam, and the New York Yankees beat the Toronto Blue Jays 10-7 Thursday night to open a one-game AL East lead over idle Baltimore. After struggling for much of the summer, the Yankees completed a three-game sweep of the Blue Jays and have won five in a row, their...
