Overshadowed, perhaps, by the Tampa Bay Rays' recent run of poor fielding is their recent run of poor hitting. They managed only four hits in Wednesday's 4-1 loss to the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium, running their streak of games without double-digit hits to 12. That is the longest streak of its kind in the major leagues this season. The Rays are batting .179 during that run and have lost seven of the 12 games. Wednesday's loss, the Rays seventh in their last 10 games, dropped them out of a first-place tie with the Orioles and down to third place, a position they haven't occupied since April 23. "We have not been the best hitting team as of late," manager Joe Maddon said. "I cannot argue that." Ben Zobrist, 0-for-4, saw his average dropped to .199. Carlos Pena is batting .200. Jose Molina (.183) and Hideki Matsui (.125) are the other Rays hitting under .200 who were in Wednesday's lineup. "We just have to get some of...

Not-So-Rapid Reaction: Rays 7, Yankees 3

Last night’s matchup between CC Sabathia and David Price was billed as a must-see duel, and with good reason. The two lefties are both in the upper echelon of Major League pitchers, and expectations for a sequel to Nova v. Cobb were warranted. It took a half-hour rain delay to finally get going, and once it did, neither ace delivered on the promise of the pregame. Each of them...

Not-So-Rapid Reaction: Yankees 4, Rays 1

He struck out five and allowed just two hits and a...
