Despite the success the Cardinals have had in playing for a third-consecutive postseason appearance, GM John Mozeliak has not made any trades this season to add to the Major League roster; until today. The Cardinals hope to add to their chances of getting deep into the playoffs with a deal that sent late-inning reliever John Axford to the Redbirds for a player to be named later...

Brewers offense gives Wily Peralta no margin for error

MILWAUKEE -- If Wily Peralta was to snap his three-start winless streak Friday night he was going to have to be nearly perfect. It's a theme developing in the rookie right-hander's starts, as the Milwaukee Brewers simply haven't provided him with much support. Facing Angels ace Jered Weaver, the Brewers were shutout for the sixth time this season and left 13 runners...

Goodbye John Axford

Can you think of a better pitcher in Brewers history than John Axford? Lots. Tons and tons of them. My browser just crashed there were so many search results. Can you think of a better reliever in Brewers history than John Axford? Most definitely. He had his stretches, but there have been others who have matched them and others who have beat them. (I think. I didn't really do...

Brewers' Norichika Aoki sidelined by knee tendinitis

The Milwaukee Brewers were once again without right fielder Norichika Aoki last night as he continues to deal with pain caused by tendinitis in his right knee. It marked the third time in the Brewers' last seven games that Aoki's been absent, and manager Ron Roenicke told reporters -- including Adam McCalvy of MLB.com -- that the team is taking a precautious approach with...

Brewers endure unsettling setback to Angels

MILWAUKEE -- Marco Estrada just happened to be walking past a clubhouse TV when the stat was read. The Brewers were the only team in baseball not to lose a game this season when leading after eight innings, a perfect 50-0. "Next thing you know we lose the game," Estrada said. One out away from another save, Brewers closer Jim Henderson surrendered a home run off the foul...

Francisco Liriano and Shelby Miller: this is pretty much it

I don't think that I need to sell this game or preview it much: the Pirates are a game behind the Cardinals on Labor Day weekend, and now they have three games against them. The Pirates absolutely need at least one win this weekend, though to be honest I won't feel terribly great about their chances to win the Central if they're two games behind the Cardinals on Labor...

Image: digplanet.com The Fox Sports Wisconsin girls appeared out of nowhere. They became the commercial-break cheerleaders and vacant media personalities no one had asked for. Their newfound presence was greeted with shrugs, acquiescence, cheers and boos in the households of Brewers fans.  Few have challenged this upheaval with the notable exception of Nicole Haase...
