New York Yankees first basemen Mark Teixeira tested his strained left calf with seven at bats in a simulated game at the team's minor league complex in Tampa, Fla. on Thursday.
Manager Joe Girardi said Teixeira, who played one inning of defense, felt good afterward and will participate in another simulated game either Friday or Saturday.
A two-time All-Star, Teixeira first injured his calf on Aug. 21. He returned Sept. 8 at Baltimore but aggravated the injury diving into first base on a game-ending groundout and has not played since.
Last week, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman expressed hope that Teixeira, who is batting .255 with 23 home runs and 81 RBIs, could return in time for this trip to Toronto.

Last night Ivan Nova pitched himself out of the postseason rotation. That is, if there IS a postseason rotation. The division lead is now down to just 1 game with 6 left to play.It was Nova's second bad start in a row after the good start he had when he returned from the disabled list. After the game Nova was asked what he thinks he needs to do to fix things. His response...

batters. He gave up five hits -- including three doubles -- and issued a walk during the first two innings,

With one out in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Twins had runners on first and second. Twins batter Pedro Florimon grounded to...
TORONTO -- If the New York Yankees were feeling any pressure with a miniscule lead atop the AL East Division, they certainly weren't showing it. Yankees catcher Russell Martin led the way with his 20th homer of the season, a three-run shot in the sixth, and scored twice as New York (91-66) took care of the Toronto Blue Jays 11-4 before a crowd of 25,785 at Rogers Centre on...

Last year in the playoffs, Ivan Nova was asked to his job in game 5 of the ALDS against the Detroit Tigers and he couldn't get the job done in the biggest game of his major league career.
There is now way this guy should be in the starting rotation or on the postseason roster. Period. He has been that awful this season and he showed last night why he doesn't in playoff...
