ST. LOUIS -- One man died and about 100 were injured Saturday when strong winds blew over a tent at a popular downtown sports bar near Busch Stadium.
Sixteen people were transported to area hospitals with injuries ranging from minor to severe. At least four sustained critical injuries, and others were treated at the scene, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
The man who died suffered a heart attack, according to the newspaper. It was not known if injuries from the collapse or shock from the event caused the heart attack.
The incident occurred at about 3:50 p.m. at Kilroys Sports Bar when sudden storms entered the region about one hour after the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Milwaukee Brewers 7-3. Winds were estimated to be between 60 and 80 miles per hour at the time of the accident, according to witnesses at the scene.
"I thought a train fell off the track," Kilroys owner Art Randall told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "We all ducked for cover. Everything was going sideways. I had metal chairs ripping across the beer garden."
