PLAYERS: Terry Collins
TEAMS: New York Mets
If the Mets opponents have managed to steal some of their signals this season, they are doing a better job of memorizing than the Mets themselves. To the casual viewer, it would appear that Terry Collins is not a fan of the hit-and-run. Through 18 games this season, the Mets have barely used it. However, that is not because Collins never calls for it. The Mets simply haven’t mastered their own signs yet. “That’s not necessarily true,” Collins said Thursday morning when a reporter pointed out that he never calls for a hit-and-run. “We’ve missed a few signs. There’s a few secrets that aren’t out there yet. That’s why I’m not worried about the other team (stealing our signs), because we haven’t got them (down) yet.” That sounds like a Mets problem. Collins added that he has had to change the signs a couple of times to simplify them since his players have missed two squeeze bunt signs in multiple hit-and-runs. So basically if you’re an opposing player who manages to steal a signal of

Mike Pelfrey leaning towards Tommy John surgery, season likely over

After the game versus Miami yesterday, Mets manager Terry Collins told reporters that Mike Pelfrey would likely undergo Tommy John surgery to deal with a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his pitching elbow. While speaking to reporters, Pelfrey said that there is a 99% chance that he will go through with the season-ending surgery. This is so upsetting to Pelfrey and to Mets fans...

4/26 Farm Report: Goeddel Shines In 1-0 Win, Tapia & Peavey Get Roughed Up

Come again you fool, the B-Mets did what? New Hampshire 16, Binghamton 3 By Tim Burns The Binghamton Mets lost mightily to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on Thursday night at NYSEG Stadium by a score of 16-3. It was the most runs given up by the B-Mets this season, but luckily they didn’t set any new club records in runs allowed in a game. That dubious honor belongs to the 2003...

Coors Field: Don’t Get Too Homer Happy

With the Mets set to start a weekend set against the Rockies in Colorado, it’s only natural for us to think about power and home runs that seem to fly out of that place with the thin air. You can bet that the Mets are thinking about it as well. Speaking of betting, sports betting websites can be found at this link. With the rut that Ike Davis is in, this is a bad idea for him....

Mets Hits: The 5 spot

1. Coming into this season Kirk Nieuwenhuis was in a battle for a reserve outfield role. Now it looks like he is the star of the ball shagging group. 2. Jordanny Valdespin will get his chance to show he belongs with the injury to Cedeno. He will be here as a back-up infielder and outfielder, and will get some starts in the coming days to show his bat belongs here. 3. Johan Santana...

Video: Pelfrey To Have Tommy John Surgery

(Video courtesy of SNY) Mike Pelfrey will undergo Tommy John Surgery on his right elbow, and miss the remainder of the season. His recovery and return could be anywhere between 12 and 18 months depending on how the elbow responds and any potential setbacks. Pelfrey does have youth on his side which could bode well for him. Pelfrey was placed on the 15-day disabled list yesterday...

Series Preview: Mets @ Rockies

After another successful home stand, the Mets fly out West to Colorado before heading to Houston. At 11-8, the Mets have to build some momentum on this road trip. The Rockies and Astros both present very winnable matchups for the Mets, and when you consider the Mets will see Arizona-Philadelphia-Miami-Milwaukee-Cincinnati-Toronto. Six teams that many predicted would be in a playoff...

Game Preview: Mets @ Rockies

What a difference a few days make! The Mets were coming off the two worst series of the season so far as they dropped a series in Atlanta and then three of four to the Giants, the Mets fell to .500 for the season. The Mets then swept the Marlins, reestablished a cushion above .500 and are traveling with momentum on their side. It would have been easy for the Mets to fall back this...

Rockies 18, Mets 9

DENVER -- The Mets led by four runs at one point Friday night. In typical Coors Field fashion, they lost by more than twice that many. Carlos Gonzalez had five of his six RBI in an 11-run fifth inning as the Colorado Rockies clubbed the Mets 18-9. Left forearm tightness forced Rockies starter Drew Pomeranz to depart after four innings with the game tied 2-2. Esmil Rogers replaced...
