Adam Rubin of ESPN New York summarized comments made bY manager Terry Collins who discussed a variety of topics and offered some early insights on the 2013 Mets.
Jenrry Mejia and Jeurys Familia
Mejia will work as a starting pitcher in spring training, while Jeurys Familia will audition as a reliever. If Familia ends up in Triple-A, he likely would work in Las Vegas’ rotation. Would Mejia move to a major league bullpen role late in spring training if the projected rotation remains intact? Collins said that would be a call for a higher authority than him.
Brandon Hicks
Hicks, who was acquired from the Oakland Athletics, is penciled into the backup infield role formally held by Ronny Cedeno, who is now a free agent. Collins said that with so many other needs, it’s unlikely the Mets will pursue a candidate with better credentials. ”A guy who can play shortstop. He’s got some power,” Collins said. “He’s got a great arm. As we’re here right now, he is that guy. At the moment, I think our ...

Jenrry Mejia: The Mets’ forgotten ace
When people talk about the future of the Mets’ rotation, they always talk about Matt Harvey and Zack Wheeler, as well they should. If he isn’t included in a trade, Jonathon Niese will be there, too. I’ve heard some mention Dillon Gee and while I’m still a bit skeptical about that one, after the half season he had in 2012, I won’t dismiss the possibility. Minor league...
Digging Deeper Into David Wright’s New Deal: Is It Actually a Bargain For The Mets?
At first glance, the eight-year, $138 million deal David Wright signed early Friday morning didn’t appeal to many. Originally, reports indicated that the Mets wanted to offer a little less than $120 million, and the Wright camp started out well above $140 million, so I was very surprised that the two sides settled for such a high amount. However, when you dig deeper into the deal...
Some Possible Trade Routes for the Mets
The Mets have many moves to make before spring training... The Mets first priority will be dealing with the Dickey situation, once that is cleared up or they know what direction it's going then they can move on to the trade front..
Davis in action
The Mets needs from behind the plate and in the outfield will come from the trade market.

Rebuild Of The New York Mets Will Begin This Week
It has been a long time coming, but its realistic to think this could be the week the Mets finally turn the corner. Since arriving in Queens following the completion of the 2010 season, Sandy Alderson has done little more than cut the fat. Crippled by the bloated contracts issued by his predecessor, Omar Minaya, and a shoe-string budget courtesy of the poor investing decisions...
Phillies Interested in Scott Franzke's Favorite Player and Phillie-Killer Scott Hairston
In 2012 the Phillies never seemed to have any luck in getting Scott Hairston out. Ever. In fact, it led to Scott Franzke's profanity-laden tirade that you can hear here (finally one with the bad words beeped out, thanks to Albany, NY's 104.5 ESPN affiliate. Hairston's numbers were insane against...
Jason Bay Close To Deal With Mariners
Jason Bay is looking for a fresh start
ESPN.com’s Brock and Salk show has reported that the Seattle Mariners are close to a deal with former Mets outfielder Jason Bay. At this point the potential terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
If you remember, The Seattle Mariners were one of the other teams in pursuit of Bay when the Mets eventually won out and signed him. It’s too...
R.A. Dickey's Agent Would Not Be Surprised by a Trade
Should the New York Mets not extend R.A. Dickey's contract and trade him instead, it would not surprise his agent Bo McKinis. The Mets have been working on a possible extension since the 2012 season drew to a close. However, the trade market for Dickey is as hot as it will ever be. There is a chance New York could get a fantastic deal in return.
Adam Rubin of ESPN...
Mets Winter Meetings Preview (Dickey, OF’s, C’s, etc)
The Mets finally lit the hot stove last week with the extension to David Wright, and now they head into Nashville with a lot to do, but a lot of different ways to do it.
There are three items that must be accomplished in Nashville, and they are all related to each other:
- Dickey’s future must be determined
- At least one OF’er must be acquired
- The Mets will decide whether...
The Mets want an insane haul for RA Dickey
As the trade winds surrounding RA Dickey continue to swirl, the names that the New York Mets have been rumored to be inquiring about are an indication that the team is going to want a substantial haul for the 2012 NL Cy Young winner. From the Royals, the Mets reportedly asked for top prospect Wil Myers. From the Red Sox, the Mets apparently demanded Xander Bogaerts and Jackie Bradley...
Jayson Stark: Mets have gotten serious about trading R.A. Dickey
In a post to Twitter this afternoon, Jayson Stark of ESPN claimed that the Mets have gotten serious about trading reigning National League Cy Young award winner R.A. Dickey.

Mets targetting Royals prospect Wil Myers
Apparently teams that have come away from their talks with the New York Mets regarding R.A. Dickey have acknowledged that the team’s asking price is extremely high. First off, I think the following tweet from Andy Martino of the New York Daily News best explains that stance.

The Unknown Commodity: Bullpen Arms
It seems like year after year the Mets are looking at upgrading their bullpen. Whether it’s Sean Green, Elmer Dessens, Francisco Rodriguez, Scott Schoeneweis, Billy Wagner, Jon Rauch, Ramon Ramirez, Jason Isringhausen, or even D.J. Carrasco.
It never seems like the Mets have figured out what makes for a great bullpen year after year. Sure you can develop arms like Atlanta, but...
Once Greinke signs somewhere, We will know Dickey's fate
Free agent pitcher Zack Greinke, the 29-year-old right-hander who, by the end of these meetings, may end up the richest pitcher in history.
He is being wooed by the Rangers, Nationals, Red Sox, Angels, Royals, Tigers, Padres and, of course, the Dodgers - who have become the Yankees of the National League. Many of those teams if they shut of out the Greinke sweepstakes will...
Mets talk possible trade involving J.P. Arencibia with Blue Jays
Earlier in the week, a source aware of the organization’s planning told Adam Rubin of ESPN New York, the New York Mets would enter the winter meetings under the assumption that the bulk of their winter additions would come via free agency. Meanwhile, Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports recently reported, NY general manager Sandy Alderson has talked to the Toronto Blue Jays about a possible...
