Rangers manager Ron Washington thinks All-Star right fielder Nelson Cruz has ''admirably'' separated his job on the field from the lingering questions off it.
Cruz is among more than a dozen players linked in media reports to a Florida clinic accused of distributing performance-enhancing drugs. Among the others are three-time AL MVP Alex Rodriguez and Milwaukee slugger Ryan Braun.
''I don't know what he's going through because I've never been in that situation, but I think he's handled it admirably,'' Washington said Tuesday. ''I think he's been a pro, and he has been able to separate what he does on his job, which is come to the ballpark and play baseball, and how he handles it when he's out of here.''
Cruz batted .275 and led the Rangers with 23 home runs and 70 RBIs in his first 95 games this season.
Braun, the 2011 NL MVP, was suspended without pay Monday by Major League Baseball for the rest of the season. That appears to be just the start of sanctions against players targeted by MLB for alleged connections to the now-closed Biogenesis of America clinic.
''Nelson's name is out there, so at some point they're going to decide what they're going to do with Nelson,'' Washington said. ''It hasn't come across my desk, and it hasn't come to the Texas Rangers yet, so we're just worried about today. That's all we can do.''
After homering Monday night, Cruz wouldn't comment on Braun's suspension. Cruz said he is ''playing the same way'' and shows up at the ballpark thinking about winning games.

The Texas Rangers landed Matt Garza earlier this week from the Chicago Cubs, but the team appears to be far from done adding to its current roster. With outfielder Nelson Cruz potentially facing a suspension for his connection to the Biogenesis scandal, the Rangers are looking to add at least one bat and possibly more.
The player who has been most closely connected to the Rangers...
The Texas Rangers capped off a productive day on Monday and snapped a three-game losing streak behind a solid performance from starter Yu Darvish, with a 3-0 win over the visiting New York Yankees. In his first start since July 6th, Darvish went 6 1/3 innings, allowing just two hits and striking out four, while leading the Rangers (55-44) to their first win
Texas Rangers designated hitter Lance Berkman would like to avoid a minor-league injury-rehabilitation assignment, his least-favorite activity, according to T.R. Sullivan and Master Tesfatsion of MLB.com.
“Hate ‘em,” Berkman said.
Berkman has had four rehabilitation assignments in his career: four games with Houston in 2005; two games with both the Houston and the...
Earlier this afternoon, the Chicago Cubs sent Matt Garza to the Texas Rangers for P C.J. Edwards, 3B/OF Mike Olt, P Justin Grimm and two players to be named later.
This trade is a great deal for both sides. Garza was a known commodity on a pitcher thin market and was most definitely going to be traded. Texas was in the running for him last season, until he injured himself in July...
Chicago Cubs pitcher Matt Garza has been scratched from his start tonight as a deal with the Texas Rangers is close It is safe to say that Garza has made [...]
Before the Yankees were able to mount their ninth inning comeback in last night’s win over the Rangers, they needed a spectactular play by Brett Gardner in right-center to steal an extra-base hit from Elvis Andrus. Watch as Gardner tracks it all the way down from shallow-center to the deep right-center field, finishing it off with a dive grab. There isn’t much to write about...
On any other night, the performance turned in by Yu Darvish as he returned from the disabled list would rate as the biggest development for the Texas Rangers.
Instead, Matt Garza was casting a shadow over the pitching mound at Rangers Ballpark on Monday, and he was 900 miles away in Phoenix getting ready to hop a plane to join his new team.
But a healthy, effective Darvish is just...
If for some reason anyone was waffling as to whether Matt Garza is a fierce competitor he delivered an intense postgame news conference Wednesday night to close his case.
“I hate losing” Garza said. “It’s not fun. Who wants to come here and lose? I think everyone at this level has that edge. I’m just a little more showy about it than other people. That’s just my mentality...
This year marks the 20th anniversary of The Sandlot, and the cult film capped off several months of reunions and tributes in spectacular fashion over the weekend.
Earlier this season, the Texas Rangers hosted an event giving fans the opportunity to watch the movie on the Rangers Ballpark video board — Patrick Renna (Ham Porter) and the film’s writer, David Mickey Evans, even...
The Texas Rangers finally have Matt Garza in their starting rotation.
Texas acquired Garza from the Chicago Cubs in a trade completed Monday, just more than a week before the July 31 non-waiver trading deadline and several days after it initially appeared the two teams had a deal done.
The Rangers have long coveted the 29-year-old right-hander who will provide a boost to a starting...
The deal has been agreed to. Matt Garza will be a member of the Texas Rangers, pending physicals. The deal is that the Rangers are getting Matt Garza for Mike Olt, C.J. Edwards, Justin Grimm and a player to be named later.
Both teams got what they wanted in this deal. The Rangers got a proven, veteran starter in Matt Garza to take over the front end of their rotation, while the...
The Rangers beat the Red Sox and whoever else was remotely interested in the Matt Garza sweepstakes on Monday.
Texas gave up four players and now has eight starting pitchers: Garza, Yu Darvish, Derek Holland, Alexi Ogando, Martin Perez, Colby Lewis, Mat Harrison and Nick Tepesch.
What’s that? No team needs eight starting pitchers? Especially in October, when World Series teams...
Stuck behind Adrian Beltre at third base in the Texas Rangers organization, former UConn Huskies and Branford, CT native 3B Mike Olt tried out first base last season and earned a callup to the big leagues.
As the Texas Rangers No. 2 prospect, Olt didn't make the team out of spring training this year and has been with Triple-A Round Rock this season. Now he'll be changing...
