TEAMS: Texas Rangers
The Texas Rangers have prided themselves in the Jon Daniels era for having one of the top farm systems in Major League Baseball. Over the course of the last decade, the Rangers have been able to select 24 separate players in the first round of the Major League draft. While some players have blossomed into becoming quality major leaguers, the majority have never fully developed into the star player that the organization has hoped. This just goes to show that it is extremely hard to project how these players will develop during the lifespan of their career. 2013- Alex Gonzalez, RHP Boca Raton Community HS (23rd Overall) This year’s first round pick, Alex Gonzalez, may never live up to the potential of other first round picks Mark Appel and Jonathan Gray, that is not to say that Gonzalez may not develop into a quality major leaguer. So far though his brief professional career, Gonzalez has shown the ability to get batters out via the strike out (7.2 SO/9) but also is a victim of contro...

Rangers preparing to add Neftali Feliz, Lance Berkman

With the rosters set to expand September 1 the Rangers are about to get some pretty solid reinforcements. Former All-Stars Neftali Feliz and Lance Berkman are going to be activated manager Ron Washington told reporters (star-telegram.com). The addition of Feliz is particularly intriguing to me. He was one of the better closers in baseball in 2010 and 2011 racking up 72 saves with...

Rangers' Alexi Ogando to return from DL as starter

Texas Rangers right-hander Alexi Ogando recently stretched out his throwing program to 120 feet without experiencing any setbacks. His next step will be throwing off a mound, which the Rangers expect him to resume doing this weekend, according to Jeff Wilson of the Star-Telegram. While it's still to be determined when Ogando will be activated from the disabled list, manager...

Rangers' Leonys Martin hopes to return to lineup today

The Texas Rangers held center fielder Leonys Martin out of yesterday's weekend finale against the Chicago White Sox due to an ankle injury he sustained during Saturday night's contest. While the ailment was enough to keep Martin out of Sunday's lineup, he and the Rangers are hopeful that he'll be back in action as soon as today, according to Cash Kruth of MLB.com...

Rangers injury updates: Lance Berkman, Leonys Martin, Neftali Feliz

The Texas Rangers were without center fielder Leonys Martin once again last night due to his sprained right ankle, but he's hopeful that he'll be able to rejoin the starting lineup tonight. Texas is also close to activating Neftali Feliz from the disabled list, with Lance Berkman slated to join the roster early next month, according to T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com. Martin...

Travis Blackley clicks again as Rangers beat Mariners

Concerns about the No. 5 spot in the Texas Rangers’ rotation heading down the stretch are completely valid based on how the starting pitchers who filled that spot fared late last season. The numbers — 10 starts 10 straight losses — could have cost the Rangers a third straight American League West title though general manager Jon Daniels recently called that an excuse for the...

Rangers beat Mariners 4-3 on balk

Ian Kinsler did everything he could to lead the Texas Rangers to another win. At the biggest moment of the game, all he had to do was stroll home. Kinsler scored the go-ahead run on Danny Farquar's balk in the 10th inning, handing Texas a 4-3 win over the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday night. ''Anytime you win a hard-fought game it adds to the confidence of your club and...

Rangers top Mariners 4-3 on 10th-inning balk call

Ian Kinsler freely admits that his time as the Texas Rangers’ all-time leader in stolen bases will be brief. Elvis Andrus is stalking him in second place nine back and will likely push past Kinsler early next season if current running trends continue. But Kinsler showed Tuesday night that he is still a threat to take a base stealing third in a critical situation and putting himself...

Leonys Martin homered and drove in a career-high four runs as the Texas Rangers roughed up Felix Hernandez and romped past the Seattle Mariners 12-4 Thursday. The AL West-leading Rangers tagged Hernandez (12-8) for nine runs and 11 hits in three-plus innings. The former AL Cy Young winner's ERA climbed from 2.63 to 2.97. Martin Perez (8-3) limited the Mariners to two runs and...

SEATTLE (AP) -- Ian Kinsler scored the go-ahead run on Danny Farquar's balk in the 10th inning, handing the Texas Rangers a 4-3 win over the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday night. Kinsler started the winning rally with one-out single against Farquar (0-2) for his fourth hit. Kinsler advanced on Adrian Beltre's single, and then swiped third. After A.J. Pierzynski fouled out to...

Rangers rout Mariners, 12-4 to complete sweep

No pitcher has ever lost more games to the Texas Rangers than one of the best pitchers in the game today. That doesn’t seem to any make sense but it’s true. And Felix Hernandez suffered his worst beatdown by the Rangers on Wednesday afternoon as they ready for the stretch run. Leonys Martin hit a three-run homer and drove in a career-high four runs and the Rangers rocked Hernandez...

The countdown is on

What countdown?  The magic number countdown, of course. I rely on BigWillieQ on Twitter every day to see how close the Rangers are to clinching a spot for October baseball.  We’re currently sitting at 31, by the way. I remember last year at this time, the Rangers were slowly (although it felt rapid) losing their lead in the AL West.  It was a title they would surrender by the...
