TEAMS: New York Mets
As I’ve said before, what sustains me in writing MetsBlog.com is knowing you and I essentially agree on the same thing: we want the Mets to win. Sure, we may disagree on the best ways for them to do this, but we all agree on the goal. I started MetsBlog.com in 2003 as an out-of-market Mets fan going to school in Washington, DC. It was a project for college, but it also was a way for me to stay in touch with what was going on with the Mets, since I couldn’t listen to WFAN, watch games on TV, or talk with other fans. I never imagined that it would still be going eight years later, and that it would be my full-time job. I love every minute of it, and can’t thank you enough for continuing to read and support my work. MetsBlog.com had a slight dip in traffic this past year, just like every other blog about the Mets (mostly due to the team’s poor performance and the emergence of online social platforms). However, we rebounded in a surprising way at the end of the year and, even at it’s we...

New York Mets 2011 Year In Review

As the year comes to a close I think its safe to say that 2011, much like the four years before it, will go down in the history books as a year most Mets fans would like to forget. The Mets entered the year in the midst of a total front office overhaul. New general manager, Sandy Alderson, hired Terry Collins to lead a relatively unchanged roster into the year surrounded by questions...

Ruben Tejada: Rey Ordonez or Something Even Better?

No matter how old some of the readers here are – young or old will surely remember the “Gloved One”, Rey Ordonez. Known for his defensive wizardy at shortstop, Rey-Rey debuted with the Mets in 1996 and was the Mets’ starting shortstop for the next seven seasons. He was a key component to what Sports Illustrated tabbed “The Best Infield Ever”. The great Ozzie Smith once...

Wilmer Flores might want to forget about 2011

In a post to Baseball Prospectus, Kevin Goldstein takes a look at 10 of the league’s better prospects who might want to forget about 2011. For instance, he writes the following about 20-year-old Mets SS Wilmer Flores: “Flores has long been seen as one of the Mets’ top prospects, but that’s mostly been because of his age and level. In 2011, he proved to still be more potential...

No Bread, So How About Some Circuses?

I don’t think the 2012 Mets will be as bad as most people seem to think … but that’s not the same thing as thinking the 2012 Mets will actually be good. I’ll think they’ll be mediocre, with a relatively robust offense but too many No. 4 starters in the rotation and too many improved teams in the National League East. And like a lot of mediocre teams, I think we’ll only...

MMO Exclusive Interview: Mets Prospect Scott Moviel, RHP

I got a chance to talk with Mets right-hander Scott Moviel just after Christmas and he was nice enough to bring us up-to-date as far as his progress in 2011. Before last season Scott was battling knee troubles which can be problematic for a pitcher who stands 6’11″. Now healthy once again, he provides us with some very interesting insights on the challenges he is taking on heading...

Top Ten Mets Headlines Of 2011

Good afternoon all. Just got back from Ohio and visiting with my family over Christmas. There was time to reflect on the year, which, of course, includes the Mets’ third straight losing season. The year was the first under the Sandy Alderson-Terry Collins regime, which was supposed to represent a change in the franchise’s culture and downward spiral. It did not. There were seemingly...

The 49th Parallels

With my incurring a 49th birthday today, I received a number of touching messages from Mets who can truly relate to being 49. Thought I’d share them with you. “Let me be the FIRST to wish you happy birthday.” —Don Aase “I’ll see to it that your birthday’s perfect even if it falls to me to ensure that perfection.” —John Stephenson “Too banged up — again — to...

Want a Team Flag from 2006?

I was in a Modell’s in Kearny, NJ last week when something caught my eye: If that slogan sounds familiar to you, then you remember the 2006 slogan! That was the year of, “the team, the time, the New York Mets”. For some reason this store had a boatload of these flags. I thought about [...]
