INSIDER: Soo step one is out the way as you can see. With their 100th victory of the season the Yankees not only wrapped up their first division title since 2006, but also homefield advantage throughout the playoffs. To top it off, they did it against Boston at home.
ON THE MOUND:
Andy Pettitte hurled six strong innings, Hideki Matsui came through with a clutch two-run single and the Yankees celebrated clinching their 16th American League East title, posting a 4-2 victory over the Red Sox and completing a series sweep.
Pettitte limited the Red Sox to two runs over six innings. Mike Lowell lined a bases-loaded single off Pettitte in the first inning, pushing across Boston's first run. Pettitte loaded the bases again in the third inning but limited the damage by inducing Lowell to hit into a run-scoring double play and striking out Drew looking.
Brian Bruney then came in for Andy Pettitte and pitched 1.2 innings of shutout baseball. He retired all five batters he faced, and may have put himself back in contention for a postseason roster spot. Phil Coke relieved Bruney and got the final out of the 8th by striking out David Ortiz.
Mariano Rivera then recorded his 44th save of the year. Robinson Cano made it more difficult than it should have been, but he got the job done. The final out was a slow comebacker off the bat of Jacoby Ellsbury, the place went crazy and very live and the bombers popped champagne.

THE OFFENSE:
Melky Cabrera and Mark Teixeira also homered to power New York's 100th victory, clinching home-field advantage throughout the playoffs.
Hideki Matsui connected to drive in the go-ahead runs off Boston reliever Takashi Saito.
