Anytime the New York Yankees make the short trip down I-95 to visit Camden Yards, home of the Baltimore Orioles, it usually means an intense and important series is about to begin.
This weekend will be no different.
The three-game series beginning Friday will be the third between the two teams this season, the second in Baltimore. In the previous two series the teams are 3-3, each won two of three in their home ballparks.
The Orioles and Yankees are second and third, respectively, in the American League East, separated by a single game in the standings.
The series provides opportunities for both teams.
The Orioles could add some distance between themselves and the Yanks. They could also close in on the first-place Boston Red Sox, who leads Baltimore by three and a half games. The Sox are facing the surging Toronto Blue Jays this weekend, who are 7-3 in their last 10 games.
If the Yankees were to win two of three in the series, they...

Chris Davis has been many things this season. He is a breakout star. He is the league leader in home runs. He is the league leader in slugging percentage. He is the best player on a surprising (again) Baltimore Orioles team. He is a top contender for the AL MVP. He is arguably the best hitter in baseball this season. He is also batting fifth. Huh? What? Yes, for some reason Buck...
The Baltimore Orioles have unfortunately grown used to being
without former All-Star second baseman Brian Roberts. While the team has proven
successful in his absence over the past two seasons, they’re excited to welcome
him back from his hamstring injury this weekend, according to Brittany Ghiroli
Orioles manager Buck Showalter told reporters that Roberts...

Dylan Bundy's frustrating season ended before it started.
The Orioles pitching prospect will have elbow ligament-replacement surgery on Thursday. The procedure will end a frustrating season in which the right-hander never threw in a game.

Chris Davis just keeps slugging. On Saturday the Orioles first basemen hit two home runs against the New York Yankees leading the team to a 11-3 victory.
Davis now has 30 home runs and 79 RBI on the season.
With just a modest July the 27-year-old Davis will top his previous career highs set last season.
At 46-36 the Orioles are 2.5...

According to a story courtesy Dan Knobler of CBS Sports, Baltimore Orioles top pitching prospect Dylan Bundy, seems set to have elbow surgery after fighting off pain for months.
Bundy is visiting Dr. James Andrews on Wednesday, and the expectation is that he will need Tommy John surgery, according to sources. While Tommy John surgery is usually successful, the recovery time is...
Barring a trade, the Baltimore Orioles will attempt to make the playoffs for a second consecutive season without a true ace at the top of their rotation.
Judging by his recent performances, Miguel Gonzalez may be their best option to fill that role.
Gonzalez will try to contain the red-hot Jason Kipnis and help the Orioles salvage a split of their four-game series with the Cleveland...
The Baltimore Orioles will not see an expected callup of its top pitching prospect in 2013. Dylan Bundy, the phenom expected to help boost a struggling rotation or average bullpen at some point this year, will now miss the remainder of it when he undergoes Tommy John Surgery.Bundy entered 2013 as the top pitching prospect in all of baseball, and a tear in his elbow will delay his...
Last night, the Orioles snapped a painful four game losing streak, defeating the Cleveland Indians, 6-3, as Chris Tillman went seven strong innings (giving up three runs) and both Chris Davis along with Alexi Casilla went deep.
Cleveland seemed to be rolling behind the arm of Justin Masterson, who had his way with the Orioles until the seventh inning. Baltimore used...

The Baltimore Orioles just snapped their second-longest losing streak of the season thanks to another homer from Chris Davis.
Another unlikely hero also came up big, too.
Davis and the Orioles continue a four-game set against the visiting Cleveland Indians, who are hoping to welcome shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera back Wednesday night following a three-week absence.
