Sports guys never seem to run out of ridiculous ways to propose to their girlfriends. There was Adrien Broner’s fake post-fight proposalMariners infielder Brendan Ryan’s magical trip to Japan, the Olympic swimmer who proposed in the swimming pool and about 100,000 guys who thought popping the question at a baseball game would be a fun, new idea.

I’ll be honest and say I never considered “while I’m choking her out” to be a viable proposal time, but here’s video evidence of Jiu-Jitsu student Justin Saikaley asking his girlfriend to marry him while she’s trapped in his triangle choke, and … yep, it’s adorable. Somehow.

I also would’ve accepted her using the weird position of his proposal to get the best of him and tap him out before answering, but this works. If I ever get to date Ronda Rousey (which I assume will happen at some point) I’m gonna let her armbar me constantly on the off chance that she’s doing it to show me how much she loves me.

Nothing goes right for Seattle Mariners in Anaheim

For the Seattle Mariners, their nine-game road trip started off very well with a series victory over the New York Yankees that left them one game short of .500.  Then, the bottom fell out.  First came Cleveland where the Indians took four in a row including three walk-off victories.  Seattle was unable to rebound and lost two straight in Anaheim and now find themselves with a...

What Does Jesus Montero’s Future Look Like Now?

The Mariners stuck with it for 735 innings. Despite the fact that nearly everyone in baseball agreed that Jesus Montero could not catch at an acceptable level in the Major Leagues, the Mariners let him try for the equivalent of a half season spread out over eight painful months. Now, it seems like the organization is accepting the reality that Jesus Montero is not, and will never...

Mariners send slumping C Montero to minors

The Seattle Mariners sent slumping catcher Jesus Montero to the minor leagues Thursday, a year after acquiring him in trade full of potential that hasn't panned out for either side. The Mariners optioned Montero to Triple-A Tacoma. He has 72 hours to join the club. The 23-year-old Montero is hitting .208 with three home runs and nine RBIs. He's also been a designated hitter...

Jesus Montero Optioned to AAA Tacoma

Seattle Mariners catcher Jesus Montero was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma and will be replaced by catcher Jesus Sucre. Interestingly Mike Zunino  is the starter in Tacoma and Double-A back-up catcher Brandon Bantz  has been moved up and will be has backup.Where does that leave Montero? Apparently the Mariners will look to play Montero at first base and DH.  Zunio is considered...

Montero to Triple-A: it had to happen

On an off day following a bad road trip for the club, word is that the Seattle Mariners are demoting Jesus Montero to Triple-A. The catcher may soon find himself fulfilling the path laid out for him years ago by many prospect experts and soon become a former catcher while there.

Seattle Mariners demote Jesus Montero

New York Yankees fans were pitching a fit over a year ago when Brian Cashman traded away star hitting prospect Jesus Montero to the Seattle Mariners for starting pitcher Michael Pineda. They really became pissed when Pineda showed up fat and out-of-shape to Spring Training, and then subsequently injured his shoulder, costing him the entire 2012 season. Yankees fans envisioned Montero...

Cashman's prayers are answered: Seattle scorns Jesus, as Pineda resurrection looms

Well - as Steve Jobs said to Bill Gates - you never what to believe when you cut a deal with somebody from Seattle. All last year, the Jesus Montero trade - (I believe I called it "the debacle") - looked like a long range Yankee death and the reason to - as Hunter Thompson would say - stuff Brian Cashman into a bottle and put him out with the Japanese tide.  Today, vindication...

Smoak Monster sightings in Seattle?

After focusing on the pitching side of the equation recently, we'll turn the focus to offense this week, focusing on guys who fit into one of three buckets: Turnarounds - Poor April, very good May Complete Duds - Take the opposite of "Turnarounds" Surprises - Guys who made a cameo in April (if that), but have got off to a solid start this month TURNAROUNDS Marco...

Are M's headed for a breakthrough?

Catcher Kelly Shoppach said that a number of Mariners were talking on Tuesday, saying that if they had won their four-game series in Cleveland instead of getting swept, they would have been the talk of baseball, not the Indians. Wishful thinking? Perhaps. But the Mariners arrived in Cleveland as winners of five of their last six series, with their only non-win being a two-game split...

Jesus Montero sent to AAA, no longer viewed as MLB caliber catcher

Yesterday I wrote an article expressing my appreciation for New York Yankees GM, Brian Cashman. Dealing with loads of taxes, inflated expectations, and emotional ownership is not easy and as hard as it is for anyone in New York to be underrated, I think he has become just that. In yesterday’s article I lamented the Jesus Montero/Michael Pineda trade as one of his few mistakes,...

Rangers-Mariners Preview

Joe Saunders is a completely different pitcher at home than on the road, and his career outings against the Texas Rangers have also been an indicator of that. The left-hander looks to improve to 10-0 in his career at Safeco Field and help the Seattle Mariners end a six-game losing streak Friday night when he faces a Rangers team that has fared well against southpaws. Saunders ...

Montero sent down, Pineda working his way up

Photo credit: Sports Illustrated In an effort to stockpile cheap, young, talented pitching for the future – mostly due to the goal of reaching a payroll of $189 million by 2014 – the Yankees decided to trade their top offensive prospect in Jesus Montero for top pitching prospect Michael Pineda in 2011. Before the phenom pitcher could even appear in a regular season game with...
