Matt LaPorta (Photo: AP)These are the "can't miss kids". Players that are former members of the Top 100 Prospect club as named by Baseball America.  With over a thousand players in the minors every season, at one time these "can't miss kids" were considered the best 100 prospects going into that season and were thought to end up being at worst solid major leaguers. Each player had a pedigree and now has a few flaws which have prevented them from being major leaguers. I am sure the hope for the Tribe is that things will finally click for one or more of these guys and they will pull a Ryan Ludwick and become a late in life All Star. Here is a listing of five Indians' prospects that were once included in a Top 100 listing. My hope is to show why these players have not lived up to expectations and why they could still end up helping the Tribe at some point.Thomas Neal - OutfielderBA peak rank: 96Flaws: power, declining production, injuryThomas Neal burst o...

Left-hander Rafael Perez and the Cleveland Indians have agreed to a one-year contract worth $2,005,000 and avoided salary arbitration. The agreement Thursday was for $5,000 above the midpoint between the $2.4 million he had asked for and the $1.6 million the Indians had offered when the sides exchanged arbitration figures last month. Perez can earn a $25,000 performance bonus if...

For a more recent outlook on the firstbase situation, check here. Joe: Last week we discussed the state of the Indians outfield going into Spring Traning. This week we'll take on the infield. The BP First Take: Thursday, February 2 by Daniel Rathman

Indians manager Manny Acta has many vested interests in Dominican baseball. A native of the baseball hotbed of San Pedro de Macoris, he understands what young players dreaming of a big-league career endure just to give themselves a chance. On Wednesday, Acta shared his views with Indians beat writer Anthony Castrovince. Entering his third year in Cleveland, Acta is walking...

Cleveland Indians sign Casey Kotchman

The Cleveland Indians finally addressed their hole at first base yesterday when they signed free agent first baseman Casey Kotchman. What a difference a year makes. No one would have taken that opening sentence seriously a year ago, but Kotchman experienced something of a renaissance last season in Tampa Bay. Kotchman returned from the baseball scrapheap to post a .306...

Indians Bring In Casey Kotchman

It’s no secret that the Indians have been disappointed in Matt LaPorta‘s production and development, and today they took a step towards replacing him at first base. Jon Heyman reports that Cleveland will sign Casey Kotchman to what I presume is a one- or two-year contract. Kotchman has been the butt of many jokes over the last few seasons, which tends to happen when you’re...
