For Philly fans (myself included), it was hard to imagine a worse way for the 2011 season to end. As prohibitive favorites to win the World Series, the Phillies watched a 2-1 series lead evaporate with it all culminating in a Ryan Howard groundout to end the series that saw him pull up lame and fall to the ground in a heap. The injury turned out to be a worst case scenario — a ruptured achilles tendon in the ankle. With recovery estimates varied from 6 months to over a year and no gaurantee of a full recovery, it is impossible at this point (and not the purpose of this piece) to assess Howard’s situation except to say it is very possible that he isn’t ready for opening day. Or in 2012 at all. The natural question following an injury like this is, “Who is next in line?” For the Phillies, it may seem in line with their recent spending to go out and sign a free agent to fill the gap. While this is certainly possible, the Phillies this offseason may find t...

Phila-HELL-phia. Occupy Broad Street taking hold. PHILADELPHIA (Sportsman’s Daily Wire Service) Thousands of despondent and delusional Phillies fans have set up camp on Broad Street in South Philadelphia near Citizen’s Bank Park where they assumed the World Series would have started last night. “Where are they?” wondered Bobby Cofski, holding a sign that read “UNCEREMONIOUS...

Charlie In The Movies - Vol. 1

Didn't have time to do Priority #4 for today, so I'm rolling out another off-season post - Charlie Manuel in the Movies. These are just funny (funny to me, at least...) pictures of Charlie in famous movie scenes. These serve no purpose but to amuse and give Carson and I a free day without having to do a real post. Lazy? Kind of, but it's the off-season, deal with it.The...

NEW T-Shirt Design Contest: Come up with a pro-Mets or anti-Phillies/Yankees idea!

As shown below, I have been messing around the last couple of days with ideas for a t-shirt to sell. It will read “Phuck The Phillies” on the front of the shirt, while a name/word(s) and a number will go on the back. Here are my ideas: I like my ideas, but I think that if anyone can come up with a better one, I would use it. Submit your ideas here, so the visitors of...

Hey, There is Still Baseball on TV!

It’s been two weeks since the Philadelphia Phillies were ousted from the 2011 postseason, when they were unceremoniously bounced by the St. Louis Cardinals, who are riding one of the greatest late season runs of the last decade. Losing in the way that they did; that is, with Roy Halladay pitching one of the greatest games of his life and the offense – which never got...

Phillies Should Consider Kevin Youkilis to Solve Third Base Concerns

By: Bob Owens Shortly after the St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Philadelphia Phillies in the playoffs, Charlie Manuel said the Phillies need to upgrade at 3rd base. Despite making just the second All-Star appearance of his fourteen year career, incumbent Placido Polanco suffered through an injury plagued season which saw him appear in just 122 games. After hearing Manuel...
