The Rockies have signed 29-year old righty swinging 3B Joe Crede to a minor league deal. Crede did not play last season because he didn’t find a deal he thought was worth taking. Crede played in 90 games for the Twins in 2009 and he was 75 of 333 (.225 avg, .703 OPS) with 42 runs scored, 15 homers and 48 RBIs. Crede has now played in 888 games in his first 10 years in the majors and he is 787 of 3,101 (.254 avg, .748 OPS) with 392 runs scored, 140 homers, 470 RBIs and 4 stolen bases. If Crede is healthy (he has had back issues in the past), he should be an asset to the Rockies as a backup at both 1B and 3B in 2011. This is a low risk/high reward signing for the Rockies.
