Did ya catch the end of the Tigers/Yankees ALDS game 3?  The Tigers took a 5-4 lead into the bottom of the ninth, and after walking retiring two of the first four batters he faced, Detroit reliever Jose Valverde faced the clutchiest player in the history of clutch, Captain Clutch, Derek Jeter.

Jeter already was clutch earlier in the game with his clutch leadoff hit against Justin Verlander. Jeter was clutch around the base paths, as he waited on Curtis Granderson’s long fly ball to drop in over the outstretched arm of Austin Jackson.  Jeter would score.  It was clutch.

The next time up, Jeter would ground into a doubleplay.  Not clutch.

Jeter would single his third time up to bat, but he wouldn’t score. His base running wasn’t clutch. He couldn’t convince his teammates to hit it to where the Tigers fielders were not.  Nothing clutch about that.

After the Yankees were able to score 2 more runs off of Justin Verlander to tie it up at 4 in the 7th, Jeter struck out.  Nothing clutch about that.

Then that ninth inning arrived. Robinson Cano, Alex Rodrgiuez, Nick Swisher and Mark Teixeira were a combined 0-14.  But they didn’t strike out with the winning run on base.  Derek Jeter is a big fat choker. He is not clutch.
