As it turns out, Edwin Starr wasn’t exactly right.   When it comes to baseball stats, WAR is good for something.  As sabermetricians know, WAR is Wins Above Replacement.  It’s a great overall measure of a player’s value, adjusted for era, context and such.     No one knows this better than Adam Darowski, who writes at the blog “Beyond the Box Score.”   He came up with an even better stat called wWAR.  The idea behind wWAR is to give extra credit to excellent seasons (WAE) and then even more credit for MVP-type seasons (WAM). The formula is ridiculously easy and seems to work well. It is simply:  wWAR = WAR + WAE + WAM Darowski decided to create a “Hall of wWAR,” and has been inducting players into it.
