The Invasion of Godzilla

The Oakland A’s finally made a rumbling in free agency by agreeing to a one-year contract with Hideki Matsui for somewhere in the neighborhood of $7 million. Not too bad when you think about the fact that the Oakland A’s were paying Eric Chavez about $12 million last year to sit on the bench and grow out his hair. And, they paid Ben Sheets $10 million to lose 9 of his 13 decisions and get hurt right before the trading deadline. So I’m thinking a one-year, $7 million contract is not that bad. And they get a guy nicknamed Godzilla. I wish I had a cool nickname like that. However, I don’t think I would strike fear in the opposing pitcher, with the nickname “numb nuts”. Interestingly, Matsui was originally given the nickname Godzilla because of his skin. I think he’s earned it for real now.
