Found July 25, 2012 on The Baseball Page:
As the 2012 baseball trading deadline approaches, it seems like there haven’t been any big names change teams. Sure, Ichiro, Anibal Sanchez, Omar Infante, and (possibly) Ryan Dempster found new homes, but players just aren’t moving like you’d hope they would. This promotes boredom among fantasy baseball owners. We need the drama of the trading deadline. There are a couple reasons for the lack of trades as the 2012 deadline approaches. There was a second Wild Card team added this year. A second Wild Card team means there are more teams who feel like they have a chance to make the playoffs. If a team thinks they have a shot then they aren’t going to sell off their players for prospects. There have been significant changes to free agency under the new collective bargaining agreement. Before, if a team traded for a player that they’d use as a “rental” to make a playoff push and that player would sign elsewhere after the season was over, the team that traded for them would get a compen...

Tigers acquire Infante, Sanchez from Marlins

It's deja vu all over again. The Tigers made their move for a second baseman and a starting pitcher on Monday, and there's a familiar face coming back to Detroit. Marlins infielder Omar Infante, who played for the Tigers from 2002-07, is returning to Comerica Park, and he's bringing starting pitcher Anibal Sanchez with him. In return, Detroit is giving up their top...

Sources: Dempster prefers to be in LA

Chicago Cubs right-hander Ryan Dempster does not want to be traded to the Atlanta Braves, according to major-league sources. At least not right now. Dempster, as a player with 10 years of major-league service, the last five with the same team, has the right to block a trade to the Braves. The pitcher instead wants to be sent to the Los Angeles Dodgers, who were unable to reach...

Theo Epstein doesn't have control of Ryan Dempster

This waiting for the Ryan Dempster trade to happen is OUT OF CONTROL!Or at least it's out of Theo Epstein's control since Dempster has the right to say no to a trade. Here's what I can figure out: Theo maybe worked out a trade with Atlanta that would have sent Dempster there for Randall Delgado, but Ryan maybe must have said something like, "I don't wanna go to...

Detroit Tigers Acquire Anibal Sanchez and Omar Infante

Suddenly, all kinds of action is breaking prior to the non-waiver deadline next Tuesday. Eric Schmidt already reported on the possibility of Ryan Dempster joining the Braves. That deal has been held up for reasons no one is quite sure. What we are sure of is the fact that the Tigers and Marlins have made history. No, a deal involving a starting pitcher and second baseman...

Thursday’s Ryan Dempster rumors: Cubs would grant negotiation window to Dempster’s suitors

Here's the running list of Ryan Dempster rumors leading up to the trade deadline: – According to Yahoo! Sports' Tim Brown, the Chicago Cubs have told Dempster's possible suitors that they would grant a window to negotiate a contract extension with the right hander. The Dempster stalemate - and why it's bad for the Cubs

The Chicago Cubs are running out of desirable choices as they seek to move right-hander Ryan Dempster. The team had a trade in place to send Dempster to the Atlanta Braves, but the pitcher does not want to go to Atlanta, according to major-league sources – and, as a player with 10 years of service, the last five with the same team, he has the right to reject any deal. Dempster’s...

Developing: Braves set to acquire Dempster for Delgado

The Braves appear to have agreed in principle on a deal that would bring MLB ERA leader Ryan Dempster to Atlanta for a playoff run. In exchange, the Braves would likely send Randall Delgado to the Cubs. Dempster, 35, is a free agent after the season and will likely hope for one last 3-year deal at the season’s conclusion. He recently had a streak of over 30 consecutive scoreless...

What Do You Mean The Yankees Got Ichiro? And Other Fantasy Baseball Questions

Has The Fire Sale In Miami Officially Started? Omar Infante and Anibal Sanchez were traded to Detroit Tigers today in what may be just the first of many moves. The Marlins have been nothing short of a complete dissapointment this year and with the amount of money put in to not only the stadium but the players as well, management is going to be forced to make some tough decisions...

Braves must look inward for reason Despster deal failed

General manager Frank Wren is annoyed that the news of a deal for Cubs right-hander Ryan Dempster got out on Monday, essentially scuttling it. Wren is blaming the internet and social media, when he should be taking aim at the front office executive who confirmed the deal to USA Today writer Bob Nightengale, who would not have been able to publish the news without official confirmation...

Game 2012.97: Indians at Tigers

Detroit Tigers, 52-44, 1st place, up 1 game. Game 1 of the new Tiger lineup starts tonight. Omar Infante rejoins the Tigers, as they look to continue their 5 day win streak and command of their Central division foes (20-14 in the division). Tonight Doug “2nd Half” Fister goes for his 3rd straight strong outing, against Ubaldo “Human Trade Deadline Warning Label” Jimenez....

Turner a High Price to Pay for Tigers

There were a lot of moving parts to the deal that sent Anibal Sanchez and Omar Infante to Detroit this week. The most significant part of that deal, however, may be the inclusion of righty pitching prospect, Jacob Turner. It's that part of the deal that's the biggest gamble for Detroit, even though their acquisitions clearly make them a far better team in 2012.
