Happy Perfect Felix Day

We have a new Northwest sports moment in time as 21,889 Major League baseball fans witnessed MLB history today at Safeco Field in Seattle.

The King, Felix Hernandez today showed some of the best form we’ve ever seen from him in a Seattle uniform to pitch a Perfect Game in front of the Kings Court and M’s faithful.

Final score Seattle 1 Tampa Bay 0. 27 Up 27 Down for the KING!

What a great couple of days the Seattle Mariners have had.

Coming into today the King was 6-0 with a 1.73 ERA (16 ER, 83.1 IP) over his last 11 games. Hernandez hasn’t lost since June 12 to the San Diego Padres and had given up two or fewer runs in nine of his last 11 starts.

I’d say he likes pitching against the Rays. That might be an understatement. He allowed just one run and five hits in eight innings in their April outing.

Before today he was 3-2 with a 2.28 ERA in 10 career starts against Tampa.

A Gem

The fastball was on. The change up was incredible, and I do mean incredible. We all know Felix was in the mood today.

After 2 innings Felix had only thrown 17 pitches. He’d tossed 24 pitches thru 3 innings, and after 6 innings the King had 7 strikeouts, on ONLY 69 pitches.

“Time to turn on your TV’s or Radio”

King Felix vs. Rays The Mariners Felix Hernandez pitches a perfect game

Felix Hernandez Perfection

After 8 innings Felix had thrown 32 balls and 66 strikes. The M’s were still up 1-0 and play by play man Dave Sims pronounced

“He’s 3 outs away from IMMORTALITY!”

That was amazing!

You could hear the buzz going like wildfire thru the Twitter-world and Interwebs. King Felix was trending on the WWW.

TV

Most folks were able to watch today’s game on MLB.tv as it was a “FREE” game.

The network got this one right didn’t they?

The gem gave Seattle another series win, which can’t be overlooked either. They now stand at 55-64 on the year. 14 games back of Texas in the AL West.

EPIC

What an satisfying two days for M’s fans this has been. Last night in game 2 of the series vs. the Tampa Bay Rays Kevin Millwood had a solid outing. The big right hander pitched seven strong innings on 102 pitches.

Eric Thames sealed the deal with a walkoff single, that propelled the M’s to another big home win.

The two-run rally came against major-league saves leader Fernando Rodney, who had converted 22 consecutive opportunities.

The Rays vs. M’s Game 3 Boxscore and post game recap will be posted shortly.

I’m going out on a limb I’m sure. But this game has to get Felix back in the 2012 AL Cy Young front runner chat.

As Felix Hernandez completed his perfect game against the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday afternoon, the Jackson Generals (Seattle Mariners' Double-A affiliate) watched on their stadium (Pringles Park) jumbotron during batting practice, and celebrated the Seattle ace's remarkable achievement. Watch all 27 outs of Felix Hernandez’s perfect game in six minutes (video)

On Wednesday, Seattle Mariners ace Felix Hernandez achieved baseball immortality when he set down all 27 Tampa Bay Rays batters he faced for a 1-0 masterpiece at Safeco Field. It was the 23rd perfect game in major league history and amazingly, the 3rd one this season. With the Mariners once again struggling this season, one [...]

Felix Hernandez Perfect

King for a Day, Perfect Forever Felix Hernandez Throws a Perfect Game   Felix Hernandez completed the first perfect game in the history of the Seattle Mariners Wednesday. It is the 23rd in MLB history but what may be even more impressive is the fact he had to be perfect as his M's only scored one run. The lone run came on an RBI single off the bat of catcher...

Justin Verlander welcomes Felix Hernandez into perfect club via Twitter

As Felix Hernandez threw the first perfect game in Seattle Mariners history, Twitter decided to have another epic freak out and the most creative comment came from Detroit Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander: Sadly, Justin Verlander is still not welcome in the Perfect Club:

The Seattle Mariners and perfection

This season has not been one where Seattle Mariners and perfection have been used a lot in the same sentence.  But today, Wednesday, August 15th, the Seattle Mariners joined the storied list of franchises that own a perfect game to their credit.  Felix Hernandez showed why he is one of the best pitchers in baseball by throwing a perfect game against the Tampa Bay Rays.  This capped...

Which recent perfect game was the hardest?

Yesterday, Felix Hernandez went 27-up, 27-down against Tampa Bay, becoming just the 23rd pitcher in baseball history to throw a perfect game. Amazingly, this was the sixth perfect game in the last four years, as Felix joins the company of Mark Buehrle, Dallas Braden, Roy Halladay, Philip Humber, and Matt Cain as the newest members of the club. Back when Cain threw his perfect game...

No-Hitters Becoming A Regularity

If 2011 was “The Year of the Pitcher,” 2012 has been “The Year of the No-Hitter.” Felix Hernandez recorded a perfect game against the Tampa Bay Rays yesterday, marking the sixth no-no to have been thrown this season and the third bout of perfection. The six no-hitters marks the most in the MLB since 1886, when eight was the benchmark. Besides Hernandez, the Giants’ Matt...

On Felix, His Almost-Really-Perfect Perfecto, and His Place in History

The fourth pitch Felix Hernandez threw yesterday wasn't very good at all.  I certainly couldn't have hit it -- it was a 92 mile an hour fastball, with at least a little bit of movement -- but big league hitters could. Rays leadoff hitter and Wikipedia superstar Sam Fuld could, turning on the ball and hitting it with a force and trajectory that, in most cases, one assumes...

Did perfect game cost Rays wild card race?

So much for all those waves the Tampa Bay Rays have been making in the AL Wild Card race lately. Wednesday afternoon in Seattle, it was more like a massive belly-flop. And in this case, the big splash at Safeco Field was made by brilliant Mariners' righthander Felix Hernandez, whose perfect game in a 1-0 victory suddenly leaves the Rays floundering again. And just when it...

Dominance Defined

There’s a difference between dominating and being dominant.  Anyone can dominate for a moment but being dominant is something else all together.  Jeremy Lin dominated for a few games.  Michael Jordan was dominant.  The other night Felix Hernandez proved that he’s not only capable of dominating but that he is dominant.  Other players have made that jump as well but as much...

Tater Trot Tracker: Trot Times for August 15 by Larry Granillo

So, did anything happen in the baseball world yesterday? I think I might have missed it... How about some trots! Home Run of the Day: Felix Hernandez, Seattle Mariners [video] Sorry, but there is no way I can justify placing a run-of-the-mill home run over King Felix's perfect game here. I could watch that final strike to Sean Rodriguez over and over again. In fact, maybe I...
