I just went to Mets.com to pick up some Mets shirts for the season. In addition to wearing MetsOnline.com gear from the MetsOnline Store and shirts from other unofficial Mets clothing distributers like The 7 Line, I like to wear official player tees. I figured this season I’d like to get a Lucas Duda shirt. So I did some searching at the Mets store online to try and find myself a Duda shirt.
Well, what do I find? A Carlos Beltran shirt, a Jose Reyes shirt, a Francisco Rodriguez shirt AND a K-Rod shirt (yes, two separate items), and no Lucas Duda shirt. I search some more and I find a Gary Sheffield Mets shirt. Yes, I’m walking about the shirt in the picture to the right. Here’s the link if you want to buy it (kidding).
Sheffield did hit pretty well for the Mets, and he hit his 500th career homerun with the team too. He hit .276 (.372 OBP) with hit 10 homeruns in 268 at bats with the Mets in 2009. But that was it… He is a baseball star. But, not a Mets star. He was a guy who played ...

Many questions regarding the future will be answered this season, through one means or another. Fans should keep an eye on the following, because each will play a significant part in the future of the franchise...
Things Aren’t As Bleak As They Seem For The 2012 Mets
With the Mets first game under a week away, fans and analysts write this season as a disappointment already without it even starting. Realistically the 2012 New York Mets wont be playing in any games of relevance deep into the summer and to the early parts of the fall. Though that doesn’t mean the team wont be exciting at times with their injection of young talent.
With guys...
Pelfrey Strong Again, I’m Hallucinating, And Ike Davis Walks Off For The Mets In A 7-6 Win
Kudos to Mike Pelfrey who looked sharp in his last spring tune-up on the route to a walk-off victory for the Mets over the Skankees, 7-6.
Summary
Either I am going crazy or Mike Pelfrey has actually been pitching better since the last time I yelled at him in a recap. Much appreciated Big Pelf – I will be sure to keep you in line during the season.
On a serious note, Pelfrey pitched...
Bay Losing His Grip On Starting Job
Here is a followup to a post I wrote last week on Jason Bay AKA The 500 Pound Gorilla In The Corner Outfield. Mike Puma of the NY Post writes this morning:
A club official yesterday floated the possibility that if Bay is struggling six or seven weeks into the season, the Mets could explore other options, including a platoon in left.
Bay is hitting .195 with no RBIs this spring...
Torres and Francisco Ready To Go On Thursday
According to ESPN New York, Terry Collins was very pleased with Frank Francisco’s bullpen session today. Francisco expierenced no pain in his knee, which has sidelined him for a portion of the spring. He will be leaving camp with the team, ready to go for the opener.
Andres Torres started and batted lead off in today’s Mets 7-6 win over the Yankees. Andres said he felt good...
Mets thinking about signing Jon Niese long term
The Mets have talked about locking up a pitcher they believe could anchor their rotation for years to come.
The team has entered serious discussions on a long-term contract extension with left-hander Jon Niese, a person with knowledge of the situation said.
The person requested anonymity because no deal was official. The negotiations were first reported by ESPN New York.

Mets Nearing Five-Year Extension With Jon Niese
According to ESPN New York, the Mets and Jon Niese are on the verge of agreeing to a five-year deal with options for 2017 and 2018. The deal is believed to be very similar to the five-year, $28.5 million contract Derek Holland and the Rangers came to terms on last month.
The two camps are still negotiating a price tag says Brian Costa of the Wall Street Journal, but are not far...
Thousands Of Mets Tickets Still Available For Opening Day
Mets executive vice president of business operations, Dave Howard, told the New York Post that “several thousand tickets are still available” for Opening Day against the Braves.
Howard said the Mets will need solid sales Tuesday and Wednesday and is counting on about 2,000 to 4,000 walk-ups on Thursday in order to sell out.
If the Mets fail to sell out Opening Day, it would...
Collins: Parnell Will Not Be Used As A Starter
Well that didn’t last long.
According to Mike Puma of the New York Post, Terry Collins said Parnell would not be used to make spot starts this season, but instead would be used for multiple inning stints out of the bullpen.
I have to point out a comment left earlier today on this thread by Original Mets Fan:
I dont believe a lot of what Martino says. Nothing against the guy...
When does the pen become a concern
Photo by Michael BaronAfter a season in which too many winnable games were lost to blown saves and/or failed holds, the one area the front office addressed was the bullpen.Frank Francisco, Jon Rauch and Ramon Ramirez were suppose to be the strong part of the roster. If Parnell, Acosta and Byrdak could be decent the pen on paper looks deeper then it has been in years. But as one...
Could We Be Seeing Mike Pelfrey’s Last Starts In a Mets Uniform?
For the past few seasons it was believed that Mets starter Mike Pelfrey had the goods to be a top of the the rotation type starter. in 2012 he had his best season as a pro as he won 15 games against just 9 losses. His career low 3.66 ERA and dominance for most of the season warranted thoughts that he had finally put it together. Mets fans had dreams of slotting him behind...
A Mets fan’s note to his future self
Dear Me:
Hey, what’s up *******? How’s the season going so far? It’s me. Or you. Depending on how you want to look at it. Whatever the case, I’m coming to you from the past. Why? Because I care about you, me us, and our sanity. And because I know you’re an idiot — at least when it comes to this team.
Most importantly, I’m here to remind you of what a rational, level...
Mets Host The Yankees Today At 2 PM, Torres Batting Leadoff
The New York Yankees come to Digital Domain Park in Port St. Lucie this afternoon for the first of two spring training games against the Mets. The second game is to be played at George Steinbrenner Field in Tampa.
The Yankees have not played at the Mets’ spring training home since the spring of 1995. The teams last met for a spring game in Tampa on March 30, 1996 (the Mets won...
Mets All In As Spring Training Comes to a Close
Based on yesterday’s spring training game against the Yankees, it looks like all the Mets will be on the field on Opening Day. Tim Byrdak and Andres Torres both took part in today’s game. Torres looked good running the bases and Byrdak looked like his old self on the mound.
With all the bad talk surrounding the Mets this spring, they look like the most put together team in the...
Ike Davis Featured In Fantasy Baseball Parody Video
Here’s a pretty cool Fantasy Baseball song parody by NOC, “Should I Pujols or Cano?”, starring the Yankees’ Robinson Cano and the Mets’ Ike Davis.
It is set to “Should I Stay or Should I Go?” by The Clash, and it’s absolutely brilliant. Enjoy…
