The New York Mets continue to have success on the field and as part of our free MLB picks (like Thursday night). Can they continue those winning ways this weekend in Los Angeles, and beyond? With three games already in the win column and being on the verge of a four-game sweep of the Dodgers in Los Angeles for the first time EVER, the answer is a resounding yes. Coming into this season the Mets starting rotation was not considered one of the better ones in the league. Johan Santana was coming off a season lost to injury due to shoulder surgery; Jon Niese and Dillon Gee were unproven commodities; and who the hell was RA Dickey? Then early on Mike Pelfrey went down and out for the season with a bad elbow. And when Miguel Batista tried to fill his spot, the results were less than what one could have expected. Chris Young was brought back and rehabbing in the minors after shoulder surgery, and who knew if he’d even be able to contribute before the All Star break. Surprise, surprise. De...

Seriously. R.A. Dickey is AWESOME!!!!

R.A. Dickey bounced back from one of his worst starts of the year to lead the New York Mets over the Los Angeles Dodgers 9-0 on Friday night.  Dickey tossed eight scoreless innings, allowing just three hits, with ten strike outs, en route to his MLB leading 12th victory and winning his career-best 10th decision in-a-row: Dickey cruised through the first six innings retiring 17...

R.A. Dickey Back to Baffling Hitters

Before the seventh inning of last night’s game against the Dodgers, the only hit R.A. Dickey had allowed was a fly ball to left-center field that should have been caught by the centerfielder Andres Torres. As legendary Dodgers broadcaster Vin Scully put it during the broadcast, “The Dodgers have been flailing away at R.A. Dickey. That’s the best word I can come...

Phillies-Mets Preview

The Philadelphia Phillies are trying to stay positive despite being on the verge of tying their longest losing streak of the season. A matchup with the New York Mets' Jonathon Niese may not help them start feeling better. After an outstanding June, Niese will try to begin this month with a season-high third straight win Tuesday night at Citi Field. Philadelphia (36-45) managed...

Mets shut out struggling Dodgers

Johan Santana scattered three hits over eight innings, Ike Davis hit a three-run homer, and the New York Mets handed the Los Angeles Dodgers their season-worst seventh straight loss with a 5-0 victory Saturday. In his fifth start since pitching the first no-hitter in Mets history on June 1 against St. Louis, Santana (6-4) did not give up a hit between Dee Gordon's leadoff single...

Mets 9, Dodgers 0

LOS ANGELES -- R.A. Dickey needed little run support on Friday night but the New York Mets provided it anyway, drubbing the Los Angeles Dodgers 9-0 at Dodger Stadium for their third straight win. Dickey (12-1) pitched eight scoreless innings and allowed just three hits to become the first pitcher in the major leagues with 12 wins. Dickey walked one and struck out 10, the fifth...

Tejada, Murphy, And Dickey All Amazin’ In 9-0 Victory

It seems like the first two games in Chicago are just a blimp on the Mets memories these days as they continue to knock around the Dodgers. After a close game on Thursday, the Mets went back to one-sided ball games with an offensive explosion and another great start from R.A. Dickey. R.A. Dickey continues to put up big bids on being the All-Star Game starter, and tonight is no different...

Ike Batting Cleanup For Mets As Dickey Looks To Stump Slumping Dodgers

Starting Lineup Andres Torres – CF Ruben Tejada – SS David Wright – 3B Ike Davis – 1B Lucas Duda – RF Daniel Murphy – 2B Kirk Nieuwenhuis – LF Josh Thole – C R.A. Dickey – RHP It is hard to understate the importance of last night’s game as the Mets won a game where the bullpen played a pivotal roll. Mets 5 Dodgers 0: Don’t Mess with the Johan

The New York Mets (43-36) defeated the Dodgers (43-36) once again last night by the score of 5-0. The Mets have now taken the first three games of this four game series. Winning Pitcher: Johan Santana (6-4, 2.76) was the winning pitcher for the Mets last night. Santana pitched eight innings allowing just three hits, two walks, and had three strikeouts. Santana was brilliant...

Dodgers Take Advantage Of Mets’ NL Worst Defense To Avoid Sweep

It was a rough end to an otherwise exceptional series for the New York Mets as the failed to complete the four game sweep of the Dodgers, with poor pitching and sloppy defense being the name of the game as they fell by a lopsided score of 8-3. Dillon Gee got the nod for New York and labored through his outing to say the least. After Scott Hairston gave the Mets an early lead in...

Lemon Harang For Everyone

It's very rare that the outcome is proportional to the probable pitchers for that night. I can't even begin to tell you how many times I look at a matchup for a Mets game and think "sure win", and the Mets get clobbered. It happens the other way as well. Usually those pesky outside factors get in the way.But when I saw that Aaron "Lemon" Harang was pitching...

New York Mets (41-36) @ Los Angeles Dodgers (43-34)

The stage is set for Game 2 of this four game set between the New York Mets and the Los Angeles Dodgers. Once the headlining team in the National League this year, the Dodgers have lost their best players to injury, currently trying to make do without Matt Kemp and Andre Ethier. Right now, the Mets can kick the while their down to make up ground on the Washington Nationals and to...

Pre-Game: New York Mets (43-36) @ Los Angeles Dodgers (43-36)

I’m starting to sound like a broken record on Sunday’s.  ”The Mets go for/try to avoid the sweep…”.  Luckily today it’s, “The Mets go for the 4 game sweep of the Dodgers tonight” on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball.  It’s almost like we don’t even have to bother watching (although why wouldn’t you?) when RA or Johan pitches.  Just put another one in the win...

Mets are ‘in it’ at the half way point…..so they got that going for them…which is nice

How in the hell are the New York Mets still in the NL East Race 1 game short of the halfway point in the season?  Honestly, did any of us think the Mets would be 6 games over .500 much less 3.5 games out of first place at this point?  Are there Angels in the outfield?  Is Terry Collins injecting each player with HGH prior to first pitch each night?  Is it ‘little Jerry’,...
