The New York Yankees in one day this offseason turned what many thought to be a weakness into a strength. There is a problem with that though, the Yankees have seven starting pitchers going for five spots. CC Sabathia is the ace of the staff and Ivan Nova is the up and coming young pitcher who isn’t going anywhere so that leaves the other five for three spots. I would assume that you don’t sign a guy to a one year-10 million dollar deal for him not to be in the rotation. Hiroki Kuroda has to be in the rotation and you wouldn’t trade Jesus Montero to not put Michael Pineda into the rotation so that leaves three guys for one spot. Phil Hughes, A.J. Burnett and Freddy Garcia. Is it possible that one of them goes to the bullpen, I would suppose so but Burnett and Garcia have never really done it in their careers. Hughes has done it and done it well so maybe they can just slide him back to the bullpen but the Yankees don’t have a real need there with Marian...

Hiroki Kuroda has a full no trade clause
The Yankees tried to trade for Hiroki Kuroda at the trade deadline last season, but he evoked his no trade clause and stayed in Los Angeles. Now that he’s a Yankee, he doesn’t want to go anywhere else and has gotten another full no trade clause as part of his contract, according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports.
Why would Kuroda reject a deal to the Yankees one month and...
New York Yankees Trade Watch: Pedro Alvarez
As we all know by now, the trade between the New York Yankees and the Seattle Mariners that sent Jesus Montero to the AL West is finalized and official. The next order of business for Brian Cashman is filling the vacancy at designated hitter. He spoke about this a little bit the other day and mentioned that there was a chance that the New York Yankees may trade some excess starting...
Rumor: Yankees interested in Raul Ibanez
Yankees general manager Brian Cashman has said that he would prefer to use one of his excess starters to land a DH on the trade market, but perhaps he is beginning to reconsider.
Sources have told Kevin Kernan of the NY Post that the Yankees are interested in former Phillie outfielder Raul Ibanez for their vacant DH spot.
The left handed hitting Ibanez had a .307 OBP and a .747...
Mariano Rivera Player Projection No. 76
Key Stats: This is probably the easiest player to write about every year. I could just same what I said last year. Or the year before. Or the year before that. It just doesn’t change with Mariano Rivera. He doesn’t age.
He’s had 9 straight seasons with at least 30 saves and since turning 40 he’s saved 77 games. His WHIP has been below 1.13 for 14 straight seasons and since...
Trade Finalized between Mariners and Yankees for Pineda and Montero
The Yankees and the Mariners have finally finalized the trade sending Michael Pineda to Yankees for Jesus Montero.
Both teams acknowledge they gave up impact players in Jesus Montero and Michael Pineda, but say the risks were worth it.

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman, who has held that job for 14 years, said Monday that Jesus Montero "may...
A Raul Ibanez and Andruw Jones DH Split
We probably have been overanalyzing the Yankees DH situation since the Jesus Montero trade, but that’s what we do here, so let’s take another look at it.
Reports indicate that Raul Ibanez might be the top target of Brian Cashman. One of the reasons is his ability to still play the field, although I would use the term “play” loosely. The main reason is probably...

Angels, Other Teams Have Made Offer To Luis Ayala
The Angels are one of a "handful of teams" that have formally tendered a contract offer to Luis Ayala, reports MLB.com's Alden Gonzalez. It's unclear if it's a minor league contract offer, and the right-handed reliever is still weighing his options and no decision is imminent.
Ayala, 34, was an excellent value signing for the Yankees in 2011 after inking...
Yanks' system has host of promising backstops
While the Yankees won't have veteran Jorge Posada or top prospect Jesus Montero in 2012, the future remains bright behind the plate -- and in other areas -- for the organization.
