Detroit Sports 360:
The Detroit Tigers have a problem that most teams would love to have at this point in the season. An over abundance of outfielders who are able to play every day. Brennan Boesch, Quinton Berry, Delmon Young, Austin Jackson, and Andy Dirks. With Dirks being out due to injury, it has made Jim Leyland’s job [...]
BEST OF MAXIM
The potential of the Detroit Tigers No. 1, 2, and 3 pitchers is almost scary. However, that’s where the word “potential” comes into play. The staff, even ace Justin Verlander, the 2011 American League MVP and Cy Young Award winner, has been up-and-down during 2012. But imagine a Tigers staff with Verlander pitching like he’s [...]
DETROIT No one knows if Jacob Turner will make another start for the Detroit Tigers this season, but one question has been answered.
Turner is much more ready to start at this level than he was a year ago.
The Tigers had Turner make three spot starts last season and he went 0-1 with an 8.53 ERA against the Los Angeles Angels, the Kansas City Royals and the Baltimore Orioles.
Tigers reserve utilityman Don Kelly hasn’t gotten a whole lot of run the last couple weeks, so when he gets into the game he needs to make the most of it. During Thursday’s matinee against the St. Louis Cardinals, Tigers’ skipper Jim Leyland penciled Kelly into his starting lineup manning right field. In two at bats, Kelly grounded out to first and walked, so there wasn’t...
33-35, 3rd place, 3 games behind Cle.
The Jacob Turner Experience 2012 kicks off this afternoon. Smyly has been pitching well and looks to be ready for his next start, so this is likely just a spot start (or could it be an audition?). Though Turner had a great ERA at Lakeland (1.66) and a good one in Toledo (3.43), his lack of strikeouts (44 in 63 2/3) and high walk rate (4.07 at...

JOHN SHARP on BILL FREEHANIt’s my honor to write about my baseball hero, Bill Freehan.Freehan is a sure fire starter at catcher for the Hall of Very Good, and a first ballot HOVG…Hall of Very Good. I really believe, had the catcher played in New York, Boston, Chicago, or LA, he’d be right there, in the discussion, as one of the best defensive catchers in baseball history...
The Pirates open a three-game series with Detroit on Friday at PNC Park. Right-hander A.J. Burnett will pitch for the Bucs. The Tigers will counter with lefty Doug Fister.

What a game last night. What a performance by J-Mac. What a performance by the offense. Mellie has more in her recap than I am going to put in this little space. Now it’s time to close out the season series against the Tigers. Pirates need to at least win this series to break even [...]
