Found March 10, 2013 on Hall of Very Good:

Full disclosure...I didn't even know the was another Verlander, but on Saturday, Ben Verlander made his name known. The Old Diminion outfielder (and younger brother of, you guessed it, Detroit Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander) went 4-for-4 with three home runs as the Monarchs topped Northeastern 10-8.  And since you were wondering, yes, the three homers tied a school record, and his seven RBI were one shy of a school record.  Not too shabby. So far this season, the younger Verlander is now hitting .500/.520/1.167 with two triples, four homers, nine RBI and 10 runs in 25 plate appearances.  In 2010, he was a 46th round draft pick by the Tigers, but, obviously, opted to take his game to college. And, ladies, in case you were wondering, the 21-year-old's favorite foods, according to his bio...chicken pot pie and and mint chocolate chip ice cream.

Detroit Tigers: time to extend Austin Jackson is now

Due to the Detroit Tigers’ spendthrift habits of late on the free agent market it seems as though they are at a crossroads with budding star Austin Jackson. In my opinion, it is time to extend Jackson on a long-term deal before the price tag gets too high. Recent players to get such deals include the Cardinals’ Allen Craig and Chicago’s Chris Sale. As for Jackson, he recently...

Tigers utility man Worth hopes to stick in Detroit

LAKELAND, Fla. Danny Worth has to feel like hes a yo-yo going up and down between Detroit and Toledo with such regularity. Worth was placed on the Tigers roster six different times last year, and optioned to the Mud Hens after all but the final September call-up. The 27-year-old utility infielder has been recalled by Detroit 12 times since his big league debut in 2010. Thats...

Tigers' closer situation under contol

Before Detroit Tigers fans demand that the team sign a closer, trade for a closer or kidnap a closer, they might want to consult the calendar. It's March 9. Opening Day is 23 days away. In a normal, non-WBC spring, the Tigers would be just starting their second week of games. In other words, everyone calm down about Bruce Rondon. Rondon, 22, made his fifth appearance of the...

Leyland: Win or lose 'no intention of retiring'

Detroit Tigers manager Jim Leyland has been managing under one-year contracts for the past few years, which he likes because it allows him or the Tigers to part ways without complications, but he made it clear Friday he has no plans of

How time flies

The Detroit Tigers are 8-7 in Grapefruit League play as of this writing and are having a rather good spring overall, statistically speaking. A few injuries and a few WBC excused absences are the only flies in the ointment at this point. We’re getting to the point where Spring Training starts to get interesting, or as interesting as it can get for a team that came in with the starting...

2013 Fantasy Breakout by Position – Outfielder Austin Jackson

One of the challenges when it comes to ranking players by position in fantasy baseball is trying to determine which player is going to have that breakout season and return a profit to your auction buy or draft pick. When reviewing the list of outfielders for the 2013 season, one of my picks to break out is Austin Jackson of the Detroit Tigers. Jackson has shown nice growth his...

He was taken out after retiring the first two batters in the third inning. Mets starter Dillon Gee allowed one hit in four innings. He gave up one run. Justin Verlander, Jordany Valdespin React to Unfortunate Hit by Pitch

Jordany Valdespin left Monday’s game after taking a fastball in an uncomfortable spot. (Photo courtesy MLB.com) Justin Verlander endured a rough spring training outing on Monday, allowing five runs in 4.1 innings of an 11-0 loss to the New York Mets. He still walked out of Joker Marchant Stadium feeling better than the Mets’ Jordany Valdespin. With Verlander’s day winding down...

Jordany Valdespin got hit in the dick with a 94 MPH Verlander Speedball

Kate Upton At Spring Training Watching Justin Verlander Pitch

Remember all the blogs that said Kate Upton and Justin Verlander had broken up because Miss Cleavage told some TV station that she was single? You didn’t see Busted Coverage falling for her ********. Look who watched Justin Verlander pitch today against the Mets. Of course JV was roughed up, allowing five runs over 4 1/3 innings. You know, he was just working on his stuff. Let’s...

Niese outpitches Verlander in Mets' win

Jonathon Niese knows he may get the ball on opening day if Johan Santana begins the season on the disabled list. The young left-hander is not taking anything for granted, though. Niese pitched one-hit ball for 4 2-3 innings, and the New York Mets roughed up Justin Verlander in an 11-0 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Monday. Starting the opener at home on April 1 against the...
