At the end of May, I observed how the Pittsburgh Pirates had an offense poised for history. They were no just bad at scoring runs, they were great at making outs. They had a team wRC+ twelve points lower than the next-nearest lineup:
I called it a “catastrophe” then, but now it has become a swas...

Ummmm, WOW. Could you possibly imagine a better way for the Pirates to vault back into first place and up to eight games over .500 – the highest they’ve ever been since 1992?
I mean, come on. Look at Drew Sutton after his walk-off shot:
That’s what it’s all about.
A.J. Burnett pitched poorly and had his win streak snapped, but the Bucco offense bailed him out after struggling...
Drew Sutton smacked a walk off solo home run lifting the Pirates to an 8-7 win over Houston on Tuesday night. The Pirates claimed Sutton off waivers June 24 and added him to the active roster a day later. The infielder/outfielder has seven hits in 27 at bats for a .407 average, with one home run and four RBI. PiratesDugout.com's George Von Benko spoke with Sutton recently.
Half of us are in tears. Half of us are in shock. Drew Sutton looked like he was in both after his walkoff homerun to beat the Astros tonight, 8-7. The Pirates already led the National League in come-from-behind wins – add on another. Down 6-2 in the 6th inning, the Pirates showed that they [...]
Mike McKenry and Pedro Alvarez drove in two runs apiece, and the Pittsburgh Pirates looked pretty comfortable during their first day in first place, beating the Houston Astros 6-4 on Wednesday.
Kevin Correia (5-6) won his third straight decision as the streaking Pirates moved nine games above .500 (45-36) for the first time since Barry Bonds was swinging for the fences at Three...

Happy Independence Day to all…what better way to celebrate than with the First Place Bucs? They’ll take on Houston in an afternoon contest in search of sole possession of first place.
Last night was pretty awesome, if you missed the recap.
Even though the Pirates won the first three games against the Astros this week, they had to come back to win each time. Jeff Karstens made sure that wasn’t an issue on Thursday night as the Bucs earned the sweep.
Karstens was brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. He dominated the Astros in three starts against them last season and picked up right where he left off tonight, tossing eight...

Who’s in first place in the National League Central? You guessed it, the Pittsburgh Pirates. If you’re a legit baseball fan you’re pulling for the Pirates to hang on all season. They are over due and deserve to make the playoffs more than other team in MLB. Let’s hope the Gatorade showers keep coming…
Rod Barajas’ week was once again shortened due to his left knee bone bruise. Rod was listed in the lineup 4 times, but he was scratched about an hour before game time on both Monday and Thursday. He did manage to start Friday and Tuesday to catch Kevin Correia and AJ Burnett, respectively. On Friday, [...]
It's Friday afternoon. It's hot out. You haven't actually done anything at work all week because the Fourth of July came on a Wednesday, and that just messed everything up. You're counting down the hours to the weekend by reading every single thing about the Pittsburgh Pirates you can possibly get your hands on. I am here to help you. ESPN's DJ Gallo gives a...
