Sun Sentinel:
Following Firday’s game, utility player Brian Barden was designated for assignment.
Barden was a solid defensive player, but was hitting .179, going 5-for-28 with 12 strikeouts.
Barden, who had been on the roster since the start of the season, had his last hit on May 18 in his last start and was 0-9 since then.
Replacing Barden is infielder Donnie Murphy, who is making his first appearance with the Marlins after being called up from Triple-A New Orleans.
Murphy, 27, had a good spring training, hitting .351 with eight RBI in 18 games, before being sent to New Orleans.
Murphy, who was signed as a free agent in December, was hitting .277 with 12 home runs and 35 RBI with New Orleans.
Murphy had played sparingly for Kansas City and Oakland, and his last appearance in the majors was in 2008 for the A’s.
If you have lost track of who has come and gone, join the crowd.
Helms is about the only bench guy who has stayed on the roster since opening day.
The Marlins will hope...
