The Veteran Rookie

The feel-good story for the Chicago Cubs is quickly becoming a fan favorite. After spending 11 seasons in the minor leagues without so much as a cup of coffee in the big leagues, Bobby Scales made his Major League debut on May 5 and is making the most of the opportunity he has earned. Scales is hitting .444 with a .474 OBP in six games. He is 8-for-18 with two doubles, a triple, a home run, five RBI and six runs scored. Scales said in response to his 'home run trot' following his first big league home run, "Even in the minor leagues when I hit home runs, there's no point in showing anybody up. You hit it. It went over the fence. So that's enough. So just hit all four bases and get off the field." A refreshing stance and maybe baseball would be better off with more players like Bobby Scales.
