A staple of value based investing is identifying a strong company with a proven track record whose stock is currently undervalued by the market. Purchasing a value stock while it is depressed in value affords the investor an excellent opportunity as the company will likely return to its true (book) value in the future.

This same principle can be applied to fantasy sports, as some players are devalued by the market due to prior injuries and other variables. Such is the case for Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Jai Jurrjens, who is coming of a disappointing and injury plagued 2010 season.

Prior to last year, Jurrjens posted two straight excellent seasons for the Braves, including a career best 2.60 ERA in 2009. In addition, he averaged 200 innings pitched while striking out a respectable 6.1 batters per nine innings.

Although Jurrjens is a five year veteran with 86 games under his belt, he is just 25 years old and has yet to reach the prime of his career. He appears to be healthy again, returning to a club that boasts one of the most potent line-ups in all of baseball, and an excellent young bullpen that will close down games for the starting rotation.

In his first action of 2011, Jurrjens pitched seven shutout innings while striking out four batters. He is currently available in 52 % of Yahoo leagues, however his ownership rate will likely increase as he continues to post wins for the Braves.
