The New York Yankees are now in a tie with the Baltimore Orioles for first place in the A.L. East after getting beat by the Tampa Bay Rays for the second night in a row. The Yankees not only lost to the Rays 5-2 they lost the lead in the American League East. The Yankees are now tied with the Baltimore Orioles for the top spot and if they are not careful they could fall into third place if the Rays beat them again. Tampa Bay is only one game behind the Yankees in the standings and the Yankees have to face the Rays again tonight.

If things weren’t bad enough for New York they face the Orioles for a 4 game series following the completion of tonight’s game. The Rays have given the men in pin strips trouble all season. It was Yankees starter Freddy Garcia who took it last night. Garcia only pitched for 5-1/3 innings giving up 5 hits and five runs to the Tampa Bay Rays.

The Rays got 7 good innings of work from Alex Cobb who pitched a good game, he only gave up 4 hits and 2 runs to the Yankees. That would be all the runs the Yankees would get across the plate as they fell to the Rays for the second night in a row….
