Found March 23, 2011 on Fenway Faithful Report:
According to a tweet from Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe, Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein is refuting a report that the team has released reliever Matt Albers. CSNNE.com’s Maureen Mullen originally reported that the Sox had let Albers go so that he could pitch in Japan, but according to Epstein, the right-hander is still battling for a spot in Boston’s bullpen. The 28-year-old is out of options and has a 1.80 ERA in 7 spring training outings with 11 strikeouts and no walks allowed. If Epstein intends on keeping Albers on American soil, one would assume he has done enough in the Grapefruit League to warrant a roster spot.
