Wow. If you haven’t seen the Atlanta Braves opening lineup for tonight’s game against the Seattle Mariners, please sit down. Fredi Gonzalez is trying to jump-start the Braves’ offense and he is trying something completely uncharacteristic. He has moved Jason Heyward to the leadoff spot against lefty Erik Bedard. That is not the most shocking part of the lineup.

The most shocking part of the lineup is something that will no doubt NOT strike fear into the Mariners’ pitching staff. Fredi Gonzalez has Julio Lugo hitting second and playing third base. Lugo has been with the Braves’ all of about a week. Gonzalez has either lost his mind or this shows him grasping for straws or anything within reach.

In fairness, Lugo is 9 for 33 (.265) against Bedard in his career with 2 doubles, 4 RBIs and 4 walks. Lugo is also hitting .333 on the year, though he has three at bats.

The rest of the lineup is as follows:
Heyward – RF
Lugo – 3B
Brian McCann – C
Chipper Jones – DH
Freddie Freeman – 1B
Dan Uggla – 2B
Alex Gonzalez – SS
Nate McLouth – CF
Wilkin Ramirez – LF
