Pitching for the Angels that year, Watson would set career highs in games started (34), wins (12), innings pitched (199) and strikeouts (141). During the Angels 4 run 7th inning they set a single game team record with 4 stolen bases in the inning. Luis Alicea would steal second and third before scoring his second run of the game and Tony Phillips followed with steals of second and then home. The Angels finished 1997, second in the American League West at 84-78, their first year under control of The Walt Disney Company and known as the "Anaheim Angels."
