Matt Cain became the second player this season and the 22nd in the history of Major League Baseball to throw a perfect game, with his complete game gem on Thursday against the visiting Astros.
Cain tied Sandy Koufax for the most strikeouts in a Perfect Game performance with 14, and he became the first Giant in the 130 history of the storied franchise to toss a perfect game.
Gregor Blanco provided the web gem of the month by helping Cain preserve his historical performance. Blanco, a first year Giants outfielder that won the starting right field job with a solid spring training, raced down a line-drive shot to the right field gap off the bat of Jordan Schaefer. It was an epic play by Blanco and will surely be passed down in Giants folklore for years to come.
Offensive Player of the Week: Brandon Moss
.348, 5 HR, 10 RBI, 7 R, 0 SB
Oakland A’s infielder Brandon Moss beat out Trevor Plouffe to win the RotoStars offensive player of the week award for week 10. Ross, a former eighth round draft pick of the Boston Red Sox in 2002, has been a nice offseason addiction by Billy Bean and the Oakland front office.
Although he has played well this season with a .278 batting average and six home runs in just 40 plate appearances, we doubt that he will have much fantasy value down the stretch. He is a career .238 hitter, with just 15 home runs in his previous 749 Major League at-bats.
- Honorable Mention: Trevor Plouffe, Brandon Phillips and Mark Reynolds
Pitcher of the Week: Colby Lewis
16.0 IP, 2 wins, 17 strikeouts, 1.12 ERA, 0.56 WHIP
Lewis made the most of his two-start schedule last week to beat out Matt Cain and R.A Dickey for top pitching honors. He tossed his first complete game of the season against the Diamondbacks, and followed up that strong performance with a 10 strikeout, three-hit gem at home against the lowly Astros.
- Honorable Mention: Matt Cain, R.A Dickey and Jonny Cueto

Brandon Beachy has been placed on the DL with elbow pain, and is set to undergo an MRI to determine the severity of the damage. Although it may be too early to call, it would not surprise us to see him shut down for Tommy John surgery, as that is a typical outcome for nagging elbow pain.
Other Notable Injuries:
- Brandon Morrow (Side – 15 Day DL)
- Yoenis Cespedes (Hammy – Day to Day)
Carlos Marmol has regained the starting closer role for the Cubs, while Tom Wilhelmsen has secured the starting role for Eric Wedge and the Mariners. Wilhelmsen is 4 for 5 in save opportunities, while posting an impressive 10.5 SO/9 rate.
Fantasy Dud: Hanley Ramirez
.217 BA, 0 HR, 0 RBI, 1 R, 0 SB
Although he ranks second behind Starlin Castro as the top fantasy shortstop in 2012, Hanley Ramirez did not help out fantasy owners with his .217-0-0 line last week. Ramirez and the Marlins struggled in interleague play against the Rays and Red Sox.
- Honorable Mention: Adrian Gonzalez, Giancarlo Stanton and Clayton Kershaw
